I wrote this poem right after the sudden death of my beloved cat Tucson, who died last September. The first one was written the morning after he died, so it is very dear to me. 'Mooneyes' was one of his many alternative names.
My Mooneyes
Mooneyes sails between the stars
Dreaming and scheming
And makebelieving
Sailing so far, so far
Over the world and through the heavens
Drifting quietly above
Purring gently, sleeping, my love
And sailing so far, so far
Mooneyes sails the mackerel skies
With twinkling golden mischevious eyes
Sitting calm, watching tunafish clouds
And sailing so far, so far
Beneath I my Mooneyes sleeps
A beautiful, checkered shadow
Who ever said that
Felines can't fly, asks I, asks I?
Sailing so far, so far
Mooneyes sails between the stars
Dream and scheme
And make believe
Purr gently, sleep sound, my love
And sail so far, my Mooneyes.
