A while ago I was cleaning the bathroom with Bleach and Amonia and Miles had a crazy reaction. He started rolling around on the floor and making high pitched noises. I had to literally drag him out of the bathroom by his tail because he would not get up and walk. I never cleaned with those products again but I was wondering if anybody has experienced this.

Be careful!! Bleach and amonia mixed can be very harmful,to you and your kittie! But I've seen my Lil Bit go absolutely ga-ga over bleach! It has no effect on my other two. She'll roll around on the dry floor after I've mopped (I add a little bleach to the water) and if I toss the water outside, she will lay on that spot and roll for hours! Sometimes I think it has the same effect as when they roll in dirt....or maybe it effects them like catnip?? I don't know, but it's amazing to see!

For future reference Bleach + Ammonia = Mustard Gas. It has killed many many people.

Cats do like the smell. I keep Zissou in a bedroom while I clean the bathroom and turn the fan on, and don't let her out until its dry.

Why did you drag him by the tail instead of picking him up?

YES...that's something that many people don't realize. It's very dangerous to mix ammonia and bleach!!

I was wondering the same...I would have just picked him up. It can be VERY harmful to a cat's health to pick them up or dragging them by their tail. It's not meant to hold ANY weight...but only meant to aid in their balance. Please be careful about that.
Anyway, those were my thoughts on it. I've never had a cat really react to either smell...I'm very careful not to use chemicals anywhere that they frequent. Be sure to mop with just water afterward to be sure that the surfaces they touch aren't covered in chemicals. If their feet touch it, it will end up in their mouth...since they lick their paws...ESPECIALLY if they smell funny (which they will with chemicals on them).

Sorry for how negative the post is...I just wanted to let you know to please be careful about that.
I hope I didn't offend...just looking out for fellow felines and their owners!

I used the bleach in the tub and the amonia as part of the floor cleaning solution (not mixed together)but I haven't used either of them since that incident. I had to pull Miles out by his tail because he was acting so crazy that when I tried to pick him up, he snapped at me. I wasn't dragging him all over the house by his tail just quickly enough to get him out of the bathroom. I am an avid cat lover and I would never do anything to deliberatley hurt them.

Thanks

, but I do not use Bleach and ammonia together because of the smell. Even when You bleach the tub then ammonia the floor the smell still mixes and it is awful.
