Well, we need an ultrasound done on Luna(my 9 month old who got out while a neighbor was watching when I went out of town), thank god she was not pregnant
She is being spayed as we speak, and no more worries. I really wanted to raise a litter, so I am thinking about fostering a pregnant momma and her babies. What do you guys think? Should I foster a shelter cat or help a rescue out (although I don't know of any in the SF Bay Area-Northern CA)? I just want to help a momma with no place to go

Thanks
Kat and her kitty's...
Luna...9 months
Tobi...3 years
and we lost Sophie at 18 years old on Easter Sunday she is very missed

Oh, I'm so sorry you lost Sophie.

I think fostering a pregnant mom would be wonderful. It's certainly "kitten season" and I was told last year if I took my pregnant stray to the shelter, they'd most likely just put her to sleep.

But you'll need a room to separate them from your other cats, and some monetary resources for food, etc. Beckiboo in particular could give you some great hints on what you would need for fosters. Good job!

That would be a great thing to do this time of year
A cat from a rescue group would probably be the safest if you have other cats. Rescues have access to medicine and vaccinate their cats religiously. Keep us posted!

im finding that fostering a cat is soooo wonderful. I get to love them and keep them and find them good homes, It means so much, that im able to help in that little way.
After tazzie and her babies are gone, ill try and get another one, possibly pregnant, but some other foster. My husband isnt the most fond of me taking in animals, but he can grump and as long as he dosent grumble too much, everything is well.
Its a great feeling, fostering an animal. I would say go for it!

I'm so sorry about Sophie.

I think it is great that you would like to foster...those kitties need someone!!

I just wanted to add....though it might have already been mentioned....that you might want to check and see if you need a license in order to foster for a shelter or rescue organization. I am currently applying for a license in KS for a rescue shelter, but I see that they require a permit/license even if you are providing foster care for animals, for another licensed agency.

I have an extra room from all my other pets and most of the supplies already and really think I could help out with an unwanted momma

Thank you about Sophie, we miss her very much and home is not the same without her. She's in Kitty heaven now, happy and healthy

Thanks

oh i got my vaccines at the pet store, and my cousin showed me how to give them to the cats, and its only about 5-15 a shot depending on the animal, which is nice. I cant see taxing out the lady who runs the rescue group. she pays for everything out of pocket, i can spare some money for my fosters.

I have been fostering dogs for a local dog rescue for about 10 years now...but I think cats would be easier. I've had three litters of puppies and their momma they like to eat everything in slight and love barking and biting too. I think I'd have less problems with cats
I will look into it and keep you guys updated
Thanks

our first litter of three Cattle dogs/ lab mixes ate a couch when they were 8 weeks old. They went under it and ate the center out. I don't think kittens will do that

I had no idea how much stuffing was in a pillow until our lab (then a puppy) ate two throw pillows. There was 6 INCHES of fluff ALL OVER the entire room. They must have really jammed that stuffing in there! (Of course, it's funny now...)
