.....to send Kevin to daycare knowing that he had a brief exposure to chicken pox? John and I just couldn't take today off. He is now itchy according to his babysitter. But it is too early in the incubation period for him to show spots or be contagious. We didn't even tell them he had been exposed (it was very brief). I feel guilty now. Am I a horrible parent to expose the other children to a possibility of a possiblity of chicken pox?

I would look at it as the other children that haven't been exposed to it yet, will at some point. Better now than later!!

I think I got mine because a parent did the same...sent her kid to school even though they had been exposed. Later I was glad to have it done and over with!
I feel bad for the people that don't get it until their an adult! That's the worse in my opinion!

I would not judge you. I will say as a parent sometimes we have to do things that really tuck on or morals and heart
That is life. God I think gives us these trials.

Ady I did day care for 10 years.......so take it from someone who is used to dealing with chicken pox and kids and parents......just a breif exposure didn't mean that he was going to get it. Heck I'm 28 years old been exsposed a million times and still have not gotten it.......your not a bad parents you just doing what you have to do. As for feeling guilty look at it this way.....most kids are better off getting chicken pox and having it done and over with....your just helping speed up the process
so don't feel to bad hun!!!

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
Don't feel bad at all! Those kids are going to get it anyway so better everybody has it at once rather than it spending months getting out of their little group.
Who's to say Kevin even has it anyway! The rash might not mean that.
Just to let you know though, my old boss had CP as a child and then caught it again in later life when she was pregnant and she was quite poorly.
I know they say you can't get it again but I think it comes back as shingles or something? Maybe I'm wrong, anyway she had it twice. I'd double check with your doctor that you will be ok

I had it as an infant and I am so glad! A friend of mine got it in high school and it was horrible for her. I wouldn't feel bad. They probably won't get it. Don't kids get vaccinated for chicken pox these days? It isn't like you are sending him in with the measles or mumps.

I has Chicken Pox twice. My first time wasn't that bad but the second they were terrible. I guess in some cases your body doesn't build the anit-bodies that its supposed to so you can get them again.

Ady- Don't feel bad hun!! Its okay. they are all going to be exposed at some time or another.

Eh, don't worry about it. If it's going around, those kids are gonna get it from somewhere even if it isn't from your son. Better that they get it now than later in life. I didn't get it til I was 12 and boy was it miserable! I still have quite a few scars, and I missed 2 weeks of school because of it!

Don't they have to be vaccinated? I know everyone much younger than me (like, the kids I babysat when I was about 13) had their vaccinations. Do they not do that in Canada?
Even if he isn't showing them yet, he is still contagious as with any virus, but that doesn't mean he does have it. Why would you take off work to sit home with a kid who might get sick soon?
My chicken pox were bad. I missed my first day of kindergarten!! I was sad about that. But as others have said, sooner rather than later. One of my friend's moms made her come over and play so she would get them!

Aww don't feel bad.
If the kids haven't had it yet, then they might as well get it now.
I remember my mom inviting half the neighborhood to bring their kids to play with me when I had chickenpox. They all wanted to get it over with! And then i had lots of kids to play with while i was getting well

Yep, my husband got it at 30. He had never been so sick before, poor pumpkin. It really wiped him out for a couple of weeks. Better to get it when you're a kid, like most everyone does.
As for feeling guilty, well, seriously, daycare/school is where these viruses stay alive. If you hadn't brought it in, someone else surely would.

If it's going around, he could have been exposed much earlier than you thought. Funny story, when my mom had it, she was reading some book of my grandmas that said you can only get it in your hair from direct exposure. So she calls her younger brother over, and rubs her hands in his hair. A few days later, she hears my grandma saying, "why is he the only one with it in his hair?" I don't know how many of them had it at once, but she is the 2nd oldest of 8, so it must have been a mass outbreak.
My poor mom, when I got it my brother was two weeks old, it was the day after christmas, the fridge died and my sister got it the next week, she was 2 1/2. (I was 7). My brother never got it ??

I've never had chicken pox... now I'm scared that I'll get it as an adult and be really really sick and get scarred up.

All my kids except the youngest have had it. I beleive there is an innoculation now so few children get it any more. I've had it and I also had the measles. They were the worst as we had to wear sunglasses just to watch TV. Measles can cause you to go blind and can cause sterility in adults.

Ugh, my daughter had it while she was still in diapers. It was not pleasant. I would have rather it been when she was a bit older.
