After much reading here on TCS, I've decided to switch Harley to a wet diet -
He is currently being free fed dry on Whiskas, but I really have been interested in switching him to a more wet diet.

So far, so good!

We've been only giving him a little bit of dry food for the day, in case he does get hungry while we're gone, but he's been loving the wet packets I got him! I've been giving him 1 packet a night for supper and I've noticed that he's hardly been eating the dry food as much - thats ok, right?!

I'm feeding him Meow Mix wet packets, which is the only wet food that he seems interested in.

I was wondering if I could start giving him 2 wet packets a day - one at noon and then one for supper, and keeping a little bit of dry food out all day - or is that too much?

I dont' want to over do it though - so far he's doing great and I want to keep it this way!

Any advice would be wonderful - I just want to make sure that I'm going ahead and switching his diet the correct way.

THANK YOU!

That sounds fine. That's what I used to do before switching pudge to felidae.

I agree ... the only thing is make sure to add some of the chn or meat based ... meow mix is heavy fish and for some kitties that is not good....

Okay... I am just glad that he's eating some sort of wet food - I got him the variety pack, different flavors - so far his favorite is the chicken flavor.

I just hope this diet is okay for him - so far he likes it anyways!

I also noticed Skittles has the 2 wet a day and the dry out 24/7. I have not noticed a change in her. She is pregnant that is it.

I think your doing fine
and the wet is a good plan. I would've switched my gang to it. Cept Wet makes them very FOUL in the box, lol but we have that problem solved at the moment, working in raw Wahoo.

I agree with sharky tho on finding some others that are more meat based just to toss in. Have you tried Fancy Feast at all? they are decent and most kitties like them.

I noticed that was cheaper at wal-mart if I can not get to petsmart. What are the ingredients in it. Also is it any good for Skittles being pregnant.

I haven't tried that yet - I was just really happy that he was eating wet food!

Is Fancy Feast a lot better then Meow Mix?

Here... or There... Hmmm
That meow mix in the pouch isn't actually that bad... the main ingredients are meat and very little "crap" mixed in. I was truely amazed when I read the pouch the first time.

I was surprised too when I saw that it was pretty good - I'm not gonna complain if it doesn't have that many by products in it, and he likes it!

Natural Life? I might have to check that out! Is it an off brand or something?

I've had good luck with Meow Mix wet food for Damita & Chico. I wanted something easily avaliable so that Damita's new owners would be able to find it easily(now if only someone would adopt her). I, too, was amazed when I read the ingredients in Meow Mix pouches the first time! None of the cats I have fed MM wet to have said no to it.

IMO, Meow Mix is better than Fancy Feast.

When you think you have this going good, you can check into www.epetpals.com & www.petfooddirect.com to order other foods from. I don't know what you can get around where you are, but as you know, there are sllim pickins around here!

I wouldnt call it better by any means. But it does have a large variety and alot of "picky" eaters will eat it. some flavours are better than others. One of my picky eaters will only eat FF wet.

What is the ingredients. Is it wet food. Might give it to Skittles if it is wet kitten food. Petsmart is way far from me and I have to go to Brigham 1x a week anyways.

Awww, I wish I could adopt little Damita!

I think I am going to stick with the Meow Mix wet - I don't want to switch too many brands on him and discourage him from eating wet food at all!

I'm just happy that he is eating wet food - so far he will only eat 1 pouch a day for lunch, I think he might get too full to eat 2 pouches a day - or he is just being super stubburn! I'm just gradually putting him on it, I don't want to upset his little tummy by doing all this!

As long as he is eating wet food, that's good. You can worry about quality food later. I started giving Twitch & Lily wet food for one meal, & giving them a spoonful each wet with the dry food for the evening meal. Then they got used to the idea of getting wet food at night. After a few weeks, I increased the wet food at night. That's another option for getting Harley used to the idea.
