Hi,

I've been lurking around since I got my got kitten about 5 months ago. I've gotten lots of got tips from this forum, so thanks. =) Unfortunately, a problems popped up and I thought I would see if anyone had a clue what was going on before I call the vet tomorrow.

My kitten (who is about 9 months) was spayed and vaccinated on Friday. Since Friday she hasn't pooped and has only peed once on Saturday, although she peed a lot (like she'd been holding it). She's is not acting strangely otherwise. She is eating, drinking, and playing like before. She was using the bathroom fine before she went to be spayed and as far as I can tell she hasn't used the bathroom anywhere else.

There have been multiple changes in the couple of days since she's been spayed though. She's wearing an e-collar and I am giving her a daily liquid pain medication. I'm transitioning her food (dry) from Purina One Kitten Growth & Development Formula to Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Indoor Kitten and giving her Nutri-cal daily (her bloodwork indicated low immunity and I also just didn't like the food). And as suggested, I dumped her litter and replaced it with tissue in order to keep litter from getting in her stitches. I think the lack of litter weirds her out, but I figure if she really had to go she would go anyway.

Any idea what's going on? Could it just be from the food change or the lack of litter? Could spaying have caused some problem?

I am going to go on a hunt tomorrow/today (Monday) to check for poop around the house (I can't really check for pee). If I don't find anything I'm going to give the vet a call.

Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
It could be a combo of all of those. My guess would be on the litter change more than anything. I was never told to change my girls' litter post-spay. I kept an eye on the incisions, but they never got any litter in there.

Thanks a lot! I put her litter in the box and she went right away. I guess I'll just have to check her a lot because she is a digger and the litter flies everywhere. It's the sand-sized clumping kind, so it could get on her really easily.

You could always try a different kind of litter and see if she will take to it. Yesterdays news is good for post-surgery kitties. Also Feline pine might work too. Yesterdays news is made out of recycled newspsper and feline pine is made from pine, they are both pellet shaped. I haven't used yesterdays news but I have used feline pine and would recomend it. Good luck!

I was planning to try out pine when I ran out of my current litter anyway. I guess I'll just start early.

Oh, and it turns out she was doing her business, just not in the box.
