At Rocky's last visit for a steroid shot, the vet suggested adding flax seed oil to his diet. She said it has anti-inflammatory properties which may help his asthma. Rocky gets steriod shots about every 2-3 months to help control asthma symptoms- coughing and occasionally vomiting. He has chronic herpes. He already gets lysine mixed into the wet food. All of the cats get it b/c we can't assign dishes, so each cats gets 500 mg a day, depending on how much wet food s/he eats. I have added a splash of flax seed oil to each dish. No one seemed to really eat their wet this morning, dunno if was the oil or just circumstance, and I fed everybody tonight as well.
Does anyone else have any experience with it, and any ideas about dosing. She didn't really say how much to give.

I'm not sure about cat dosage, but my mother took 1 tablespoon once a day while battling colon cancer. I would think maybe an 1/8 to a 1/4 tsp would be more than enough. Hope it helps him feel better!

Well, they are eating more than they did the first time, but I don't know if they exactly like it. I was giving probably about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon- poured a bit in a regular spoon and put a nickel sized drop in each bowl. I'm wondering if he will take it with a dropper- he normally hates droppers but maybe he will take it b/c it doesn't taste quite as bad. I'm going to see if anyone ate their food this morning when I get home, and then decide.
