Hello! I have four cats, three girls and one boy. Two of my girls have been spayed and I didn't think that my youngest girl (Pip) could get pregnant for she is only nine months old.... How wrong was I??!! My tom cat (Badger) is the daddy which I find really sweet.
I am really worried about Pip because she is only young and she is a very petite cat too. I think that she will be due any time now because she looks like she had swallowed a beach ball!
I have been reading about pregnant cats on-line, I think I have really scared myself by reading about 'things that can go wrong'. I love my Pip so much and the thought of her giving birth is frigthening.
Has anyone else had a young, petite cat that has given birth? If so, was all well? How many kittens would you expect from a small cat?

Thank you
Sarah

Hi and Welcome to TCS!!

Yes, 9 months old isn't too early for her to have gotten pregnant, but I guess we are past that part.

It is really hard to predict how many kittens a cat will have just by looking at size. Some of my largest girls have small litters, and some of the smallest girls can have large litters.
Have you felt any movement yet? That usually signals that there is about 2 weeks left to go. She can look like she swallowed a watermelon, but still not deliver for a few days, size just isn't an indicator to go by.
It is much healthier for your male as well as your females to be spayed/neutered. It would be wise to get the male done now, as it can take a couple of months after neutering before all of the hormones and such will leave his system, and he can still get a female pregnant the first several weeks after his neutering.
You can get the Momma spayed after she weans her kittens.
I am going to take the liberty to give you a link that other TCS members give to help with low cost spays and neuters. I hope it helps.

We hope for a safe delivery for you and Pip.

Hello and thank you. Yes I have noticed movement over the last couple of days
ooooo won't be long then!

I wasn't aware that it is healther of a male cat to be neutered. He has had all jabs and has never sprayed around the home at all. I will phone my vet to take his plums away
I'm sure he will love me for that

I will be getting Pip spayed too when she has weaned the babies.

I am from the UK and I will not get help unless I'm on Benefits, which I am not. Thank you for the link though.

I'll keep you updated on the forums on her progress and will show pictures when the babies arrive!

I am sorry, I didn't even think to see where you were located at.

That is really wonderful that Momma and Daddy will be altered soon.
I look forward to the updates on Pip, and of course baby pictures!!

The forum here is great, I have learned a great deal from the members here.

I'd get Daddy neutered ASAP... he's going to start spraying the house, eventually; or he could get out and get somebody else's cat pregnant, which would be annoying for them... un-neutered toms can be more violent, too, including to kittens.

Uhm, yeah, so I can't wait for baby pics either

Sarah..even after your male is neutered...he needs to stay away from your female. Even neutered males carry active sperm for a period of time after their neuter and females can become pregnant again as early as a week after giving birth...so best to keep him segregated from your intact female and indoors only until it has been about a month after his neuter.

Sarah, (I have a daughter Sarah)...anyways, your story is a repeat of mine - Sammi is petite and young, and...well it all happened when the door to the great outdoors opened and...
If you go back and look through my posts, Sammi gave birth to 5 healthy babies last Thurs - all are doing wonderfully - but since she is small and young I have been feeding her pretty much on demand, and now her demand is increasing! This a.m. she got me up before 5 to tell me she was starving!! I think she's eating between 3 and 4 small cans of food and dry kitten kibble available all the time - add a dish of KMR, a bowl of water and voila!! Sammi's Diner!!
In no way is she getting fat, she started out small and remains that way now...(nope, no worms either) just feeding 5 babies!!
Best of luck!! Enjoy!!

Oh thank you all very much. I do feel alot better now, and I am not in a panic anymore, just can't wait for the little ones to show themselves. I will post up a picture of Pip when I can figure out how to do it!

I have booked my tom cat (badger) in at the vets.

You have all been really helpful

Wow, 9 months old? This makes me a bit nervous. Miki was a stray before I took her in a week ago. She is 9 months old. I really hope she's not pregnant and I don't think she is, but its a possibility. *crosses fingers* I plan on getting her spayed this summer.
