I need some advice. The vet prescribed Clavamox for Cindy due to infections. We are supposed to give it to her twice a day for 14 days. We gave her her first two doses yesterday, and this morning I found 2 places where she had diarrhea. I know that can be a side effect, but is it something that should cause me to stop medicating her? I will call the vet tomorrow, but thought maybe someone would have some info to pass along before then. I gave her her dose this morning.

I'm also having a difficult time getting her to eat. She has been licking the gravy, but I'm not certain if it's enough. She's not a real big eater to begin with. To top it off, she might have food allergies, but I don't know to what.

She just came out from behind the couch and is looking out the window. She seems okay, but I don't want her getting dehydraded. I'm not sure she used the litter box to urinate yesterday or this morning.

I'm going to see if I can find a grocery store open so I can get some more food with gravy, most of what I have left is solid. She did eat some solid this morning, but I don't know if that was before or after the diarrhea, because it was 4:30 in the morning when I gave it to her and I accidently locked my self out of the house for awhile

Whoever said cats will help reduce you're stress obviously didn't have cats of their own!

I would still give it to her unless she is bad. Call the vet. Skittles had the runs for the first 24 hours and then it was fine.

Jackson was also on Clavamox, He had diarrhea, but on my prescription it said if the cat developed diarrhea take them to the nearest pet hospital, I just called the vet anjd he had me take Jackson of th Clavamox all together. Call the vet and just see what he says. Also Jackson diarrhea was so bad his poor bumk was starting to bleed! Just watch your kitty and give the vet a call!

Good luck, keep us posted!!!

Please check with your vet. I have recently disovered that Clavamox can cause serious UT problems. My vet put my rats on it and told me to keep a close eye on them because of it. When I asked if the same held true for cats, I was told "of course". One of my rats died because it. I realize that rats and cats aren't exactly in the same 'family' but still.

Thanks so much for all the replies. When I posted the original message, it was Easter, and no vet around to call. I gave Cindy 3 doses of the clavamox, 2 on Saturday and 1 Sunday morning, then I stopped. She only had the diarrhea twice as far as I can tell. At least I didn't find any more anywhere else yet. But she was listless, not eating, not drinking, etc.

First thing Monday I called the vet, and she changed to a pill, Zeniquin, 25 mg. I give Cindy 1/2 a table once a day, crushed into her food. She is doing much better, she's lively, playing again, etc., and not so frightened (see a little cautious, but not cowering tail wrapped around her frightened (which just flat out breaks my heart to see her like that).

If anyone knows of anything bad with Zeniquin, I would appreciate you're letting me know. I guess I can't always count on getting good advice from the vet!

Monday night was hysterical. Cindy solicited food like every two hours thoughout the night! Of course, I got up and gave her some each time, so I was very tired on Tuesday. She never eats much at any one time anyway, and I was so happy to see her wanting to eat, I guess I would have sat up all night and opened every can of food I had for her if she had wanted it.

Her infections seem to be getting better, which is good. So now we just have to get through the lump removal on May 3 and hope it's nothing serious (it's from a reaction to a steriod shot), and maybe we can all settle down for awhile, and I can figure out what people mean when they say having a cat will cause you to be less stressed
