A couple of weeks ago we got a feral cat. We decided to help one before the animal shelter got to it. Anyways, she is pregnant, and it is obvious she will be popping sometime soon.

Well, she hasn't had them yet, but she's acting like she's in heat. Do cat's do that when they go into labor? It started this morning. She's been pacing. Meowing, then laying down with her butt in the air. Not straight up... but just probably an inch off the ground. When's she not doing that she's asleep... So, is this normal? Should I take her to a vet? I'm really worried about her.

First...where is this girl (inside or outside)?? And how do you know that she is pregnant (did you have her seen by a vet or did you self diagnose her?)

She's inside.. and my cousin works for a vet... She's the one that told us. Also, she has formed milk pockets.

Great....just wanted to clear that up because sometimes cats "look" and "act" pregnant but aren't and can be showing signs of heat because they aren't pregnant. Sounds like she is getting ready to deliver since milk production shows up 1-2 days prior to delivery. I'm also glad to read she is indoors only because we wouldn't want her to give birth outdoors or for her to become pregnant again once she gives birth. BTW...welcome to TCS.

Shia...here are some good links to information on pregnant cat delivery:

http://www.cat-pregnancy-report.com/...ing-birth.html

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80724

Also..I found this:

The entire delivery generally takes between 2-5 hours but can last up to 12 hours. Litters are usually of between 4 and 6 kittens, although litters of just one or two kittens can be common. After all kittens are born mom will take care of her kittens and rest! If the mom does not seem to be taking care of her kittens you may need to take over. If this is the case consult your vet immediately for specifics.
