My fh and I volunteer up at the shelter and last year we were working with a gorgous lab/rodesian (sp?) ridgeback dog named Duncan. He had a "hot spot" on one cheek, but was just a wonderful, playful fellow. One of his funny traits was when he was walking past the cat room (they have a glass door and two windows, he'd stand stock still at the door and only the tip of his tail would twitch. He was friendly with kitties, just very interested.

Fast forward to this week. I just met a neighbor of mine who lives two houses down from me, and his beautiful dog Osiris. Very friendly, both of them, and later that night I was discribing the meeting to fh. He asked what the Osiris looked like. I couldn't tell him a breed, but asked if he remembered the dog ("on the left in the first kennel as you come in the door") that we had worked with a few months ago because I remembered the two dogs as being very similar.

So yesterday, we were driving out and I saw the neighbor and Osiris and told fh to stop, and I introduced him to the neighbor. Fh asked what kind of breed Osiris was. The neighbor told us rodesian ridgeback/lab and that he'd adopted him from the shelter a few months ago. Turns out that Osiris and Duncan are the same dog! He still has a darker hair patch on his cheek where the hot spot was, although it's all healed up. I just thought it was really cool that the dog we worked with ended up two houses down!

Oh that's neat! How nice to actually know that there was a happy ending for Duncan after he left the shelter. And now you get to pet sometimes too.
