I have yet another question. A couple of Gemma's nipples are pretty red and raw near the tips. Last night, when I noticed them, I put some cold water on the nipples, last night, but that was all. They may be red because of the vigerous nursers that she has, but I just want to know if there's anything I might put on them?

I wouldn't risk putting anything on them.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think she would voice her opinion if things were really bad....

Maybe they are just "adapting" ??? I know Sammi's are quite red after feeding, but she hasn't complained at all, or tried pushing anyone away from "mealtime"

Yeah, Gem hasn't pushed anyone away or acted as if she were in pain, but when I saw how red some of them were, and a little big of skin was hanging off of one (bloody little vultures...
) I just got a little freaked.

*sighs*

I'm paranoid, is all.
Thanks!

Oh, that brings back memories of breast feeding. It hurts like crazy in the beginning and I'm sure its the same for cats. The nipples will toughen up soon.

You can use bagbalm, its sold in drug stores, its used for cows when they are being milked also, and it wont hurt the babies, it has a vasoline texture kind of , and isnt fragranced, atleast not good anyway

My experience is with human nipples (I have a 2yo & a 4mo) not cats', but lanolin ointment is what's usually recommended. You don't have to wipe it off before feeding.

(I have an intro post brewing, but the short version is that we have three one-week old kittens and I'm delighted to have found this place!)
