My recipe calls for fresh jalepena peppers or any hot peppers instead of the chili flakes. (1 or 2 peppers at most) But unless you want to burn your mouth, remove the seeds from the peppers. And it would be a good idea to wear gloves when chopping the peppers. If not, wash your hands thoroughly. If you have any one your hands and you rub at your eye, you will be sorry.

The kind in a plastic bag inside a box? I haven't had the spicy one (and now I won't), but you're right, the regular one is delish!

I don't have an exact recipe for it. I usually take 2 avocados, about a cup of sour cream, about the same of salsa (whatever kind you like, however much you want), add some salt (to your own taste) and a medium clove of minced garlic. As far as the exact quantities of things, it's really up to personal preference. It's something you can change around and play with to find out how you like it. You can also use garlic salt if you don't have fresh garlic. Minced garlic in the jar is fine, too...and would be probably about a half teaspoon.

I mash up the avocados, and add everything else, and it winds up being all nice and creamy and delicious. Not many people think to add garlic to mexican food, but it's YUMMY!! My family's LOVES my guacamole!

Do you know how to open and cut the avocados? I usually take a knife and cut down the the pit all the way around the avocado, turn the two halves slightly, and open it up. I then hit the pit with the knife (carefully), twist slightly, and it comes right out. You can then cut up the avocado meat while still in side the shell (into cubes, or wedges, whichever). Then take a spoon, put it between the meat and the shell, and scoop it right out!

If you already do it this way, forgive the explanation...lol!

I'm trying to find my Moosewood cookbook but no luck so far. Its a vegan cookbook with excellent easy to make recipes. There's a guac. recipe in there. Its very simple, smooshed avocado's, garlic, lemon, pepper/salt to taste, if there is anything else in it (I may have missed something) it would probably be an herb or something, very basic but tasty.

Ok, I'm about to make the guacameowly, I bought a packet of McCormick's mix to try but I'm gonna try it from scratch too. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm gonna use the base of Rosie's recipe, but I'm gonna use tomatoes instead of salsa. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Ok, it's done and it turned out ok for my first time....it's good but I think it's missing something. I did: 2 avocados, 1 small tomato, about 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 medium clove garlic, minced, a spritz of lemon, salt and pepper. I can't tell what's missing, it's just not quite right. I don't like it spicy so no jalepenos....any ideas?

Without the peppers I would think that you were missing celantro.
