hi
i have been feeding a very young ferel cat for seven months now,she has gained my trust, lets me stroke her,she has been inside my house, but most of the time she sits all evening on the step looking at us.
i discovered she was pregnant!so i made her a safe place from a large box putting a cat flap in it with soft bedding. she had her kittens two nights ago, tonight i tried to follow her to find the kittens, she spotted me and came running to me,then she took me,stopping as i caught up with her, giving a meow each time, she led me right to where they were, deep in the undergrowth,i could not get to see the kittens or hear them.
i felt honoured that she trusted me enough to show me.
should i go each day and leave her food or let her carry on coming to our home for her food?i do not know a great deal about cats, but i do feel very close to this young cat,and would love her as a pet, people say she will never sit on my lap or let me get so close as she is ferel, is this true?
surely if i continue to display love towards her she will in time ?
can anyone give me some advice on what to do?would i stand a better chance with one of her kittens?this is her first litter i would think as she is only a kitten herself.
She looks so thin and scraggy now she has delivered, and i want so much to build her up, what is the best food i can give her?
i hope someone out there will give me some advice,i want to do the right thing by her!
thankyou for your time and any help.

wow, i would try and bring them in myself. i wouldget brush clippers and get the kittens out and bring them and mama to a quiet spot in your house. So many bad things can happen to them out there, if mama has gained that much trust in you, she should let you. Then you can bulk her up get her nice and healthy. If she lets you touch her, she is accepting your love. Thats good. I really hope that you can get the kittens and mama inside and healthy!

should i go each day and leave her food or let her carry on coming to our home for her food?

I have been caring for a colony of seven for several years now and when one of the females (can't seem to trap some of them) has babies, I do bring the food closer to her so she can stay close to the "nesting" area. You may want to give her some premium cat food mixed with KMR for some extra nutrition. I also purchase some fatty chop meat, slightly cook it and add that to their food...beefs them up and gives them a little added moisture in their diet.

i do not know a great deal about cats, but i do feel very close to this young cat,and would love her as a pet, people say she will never sit on my lap or let me get so close as she is ferel, is this true?

Hard to say...they all have different agendas
Although my colony are strays...not true ferals...I don't believe it would be fair to try to bring them inside.

Keep an eye on her & her babies...she most likely will move the "nesting" area to several places. As for the little ones...I know it may be difficult, but they are better off with her at this very young age. Once they start wandering...close to 4-weeks or so...you may want to find a foster home for them...and then a good adoption/kitten organization.

She *could* be a stray... seeing as how she warmed up to you so easily... or maybe just the sort of cat, not quite feral or pet, who just has a lot of human friends, but no real owner...

If she lets you pet her she'd probably be OK with being brought indoors, but it would have to be done carefuly.
