Hi there, my maine coon Bentley threw up last night, about 6 hours after his last meal, he got in the litter box as if he was about to use it then started gagging and threw up right outside of it. However it wasn't really like normal throw up, he literally threw up a whole can worth of food, and none of it looked like it had been digested, it looked like I just opened a can up and plopped it onto the ground. I thought it'd at least look chewed up and such, but it didn't.

I've narrowed it down to two possible things. Number one, he accidently ate a bit of the tv guide earlier that morning, he likes to sleep on it and play around with it and such, and somehow he managed to bite a small piece off (about half the size of my pinky finger), unfortunately I wasn't able to get it out of his mouth before he swallowed it. The second I can think of is earlier that same morning I gave him some whiskas temptation creamy dairy flavor treats for the first time, however on the back it says they're 99.7% lactose free, so I'm kind of doubting it was that.

I thought it was because of the tv guide and that it was out of his system so I gave him some food in the morning, and checked to make sure he did in fact chew it thoroughly (which makes the fact when he threw up it looked completely unchewed and undigested even weirder) and he seemed to be ok up until just now, when he started gagging as if he was about to throw up again, however he stopped, I guess he managed to get it back down or something. I'm keeping him in my room now to monitor him, any idea what this could be? Is it just like a 24 hour bug or should I call the vets?

W/ the best cats
QT is my "vomit" kitty.
She does it when it's hairball time or when she chewed on too much grass (she goes outside). The food looks undigested and quite a lot of it too. Is Bentley indoor or outdoor?

He is an indoor cat, I'm not sure why he's having hairball problems, I make sure to get rid of all his loose fur with a sticky roller thing, and I give him the whiskas hairball prevention treats. Anyway, do you guys think it's safe to feed him some wet food? I'm worried he might throw up again, but he's really hungry and doesn't seem to want any of his dry food.

Wet food is great for hairballs, wet food is great in general for those unable to feed raw or homemade /// what dry are you feeding him ??? as some are better at preventing hairballs than others

For dry he's getting nutrience supreme, and for wet he's getting the nutro cans. I haven't actually seen him cough a hairball up yet, we've had him a bit more than a month and so far he's thrown up twice (first time was a few days after we brought him home, because he was sick when we got him) and coughed up muchus once about a week ago. Does he have like a giant hairball he's been trying to cough up for a long time or is this something else?

My cats are primarily indoor, but they get to spend time outdoors on a leash. I noticed today that one of them was happily chewing away on a particular grassy weed that I KNOW will make him throw up later...sigh. Later that morning I found kitty upchuck on the top of my car. Yep, he likes to perch up there.

Every once in a while my kitties will spew, but I tend to think it's becaue they've perhaps caught and partially consumed an insect/gecko they shouldn't have.
I'll find partial remains around the house sometimes. Blech.

Perhaps your kitty ate an insect too? Hope he feels better soon...

We already feed him a can in the morning and a can at night, should we really increase it? Also, I made a topic back when he coughed the muchus up and all the people that replied said it was probably a hairball, should I really be worried?

I think the best way to answer your ? is to have you call the vet office and just talk. Then if they think you should be seen then go from there.

Are you giving a 3ounce can in the morning and at night?? Cause that would be enough for an adult of 6-8 lbs ///

A hairball that doesnt come out front or back needs to go to the vet... I agree with at least a call
