Why does my cat keep trying to groome me

Any time my cat jumps on me, he starts wanting to lick my beard. I try to stop him, but he just keeps shoving his face into my chin...
Anyone know why?

My skittles does that to my face and hand. I will keep a eye on your thread since I have the same question if you don't ind that I do.

you are family, thats what a nice cat does to another.

Just take it as a sign of affection.

I am sure she loves me but am begining to feel like her sugar momma.....

when I first read this post I thought it was from the same person that started this thread...the one with the beard!!! Then I realized they are from 2 different people. .....................anyways when kitties do that, they are showing their affection for you....the big cats need grooming too!!!

I do think it is neat that she thinks that highly of me. She can groom me but when it starts to hurt I have to turn. The tongue likes to take skin off LOL.

Zissou licks my chin too but only while I'm asleep. I think its the same as us petting them. They can't pet back, so they lick us instead. Plus, cats groom each other so maybe you have become an honorary cat!

Or do you just have bits of food in your beard?

I have no BEARD j/k I think she is just trying to tell me she loves me.

You're lucky Skittles stops at the tongue. Puppy seems to think we have fleas. After licking us sufficiently, he attempts to clean with his teeth. Not a bite, but like he's nibbling at the top layer of skin.

Pesky large hairless cats, we're so difficult to clean!

OOCH. puppy nails are like razors.

Heh, I was hoping that it was done out of love and that Avedis didn't just want to eat me. I love this cat. Thanks for all your help.

Skittles today kept putting her butt in my face and laying that way. I think she did it to give me the hint hay let me groom you or kiss my butt

I'm going to agree with the "he's just showing you affection" crowd.

I think my favorite thing I've ever read on this board was said about a similar situation, when someone asked why their kitty kept trying to sleep with them. Someone replied,

"He's just trying to be close to you."

I think of that every time my kitty does something (like rub my legs, which happens CONSTANTLY) I just think she's just trying to be close to me, to show me her affection. And I accept it. Even when it's inconvenient.

Yep, even my 4 week old foster kitten rubs and licks on my face when she's feeling full and sappy. Of course, then it turns into a 10 claw face grab with biting, and she gets the momma cat growl and she settles for being sweet again !

Lonestar is always trying to groom me and he has such a rough tongue!
