Not sure if this belongs here or not. Feel free to move accordingly.

There are two feral cats hiding underneath my house. One male and a female. We have tried to block the entrance, but apparently they have gotten in someway. These are the same two that was here about a year ago and gave birth to the two (was three) that I am raising now. They abandoned them last year and left them to starve. Now they are tormenting them.

The two come here every so often and scare the crap out of my two little ones. They cannot even eat outside for them. They have invaded their territory and have taken it over. I think the female is pregnant again and is about to give birth, if she hadn't already underneath my house, again.

The male feral cat attacked my Blackie boy. I heard the cat fight but didn't think much of it since this has been going on for a week now, until he came for supper last night, noticed a huge knot on right side of his head just below the ear. Last night after he ate his supper, he jumped up on the couch beside me to lay down and he began to scratch, all of a sudden this liquid came spurting out. It was a mess. I jumped up and got paper towels and put to side of his head to absorb the liquid, it sprayed all over. (me and couch) It had a foul odor to it and my husband and I thought it was infection coming out. The yellowish liquid soon changed to a light reddish blood color. Scared the crap out of me. I immediately got some antibiotic ointment and some peroxide to put on it (as much as he would let me). I guess he was injured and I didn't notice and it absessed. It was terrible!!

I called the local Animal Shelter here today and they suggested that I trap them and bring them in to the Shelter. They have loaner traps were all out at the moment. The lady said she expected to have some in next week. I hope the male don't kill my little boy until I can get some traps.

My little female (Katie) is so scared sometimes she will act like she wants to go outside but gets to the door and looks around and runs back inside!! She is just terrified. Her little tail starts twitching and she runs and hides under the chair. She will stay in most of the night but will not go outside until it gets full daylight out. Blackie boy is just the opposite, he wants to prowl all night and come in and sleep all day. I can't get him to stay in at night where it is safe. I have tried to ignore the signs of him wanting out. but he would tear down my patio doors to get out.

Today, the injury looks even worse, all the hair is coming out around it and every time he scratches, that liquidy stuff comes out. Called the vet today, they said to put some antibiotic ointment on it (which I was already doing) and the peroxide would be ok. He came in to eat this afternoon and had very little appetite. He ate a couple of bites and that was it!! His overall appearance just looks bad. I am so worried about him. The lady at the Shelter told me that the feral male would eventually kill him if I didn't get them trapped.

Oh, by the way, Katie is spayed, but Blackie is not neutered.

Any suggestions or comments would greatly be appreciated!!

I am waiting to get those traps. But don't know what I can do in the meantime. Any other treatment suggestions? Oh, what can I do!!!

Thanks,
Paulena

I'm so sorry your kitty is hurt.
Many happy thoughts for his speedy recovery!

First: Keep your cats IN. It sounds like it will be only a week until the traps show up and it's not worth getting them hurt.

Also, try looking into other animal control possibilities in your neighbourhood. There are a few options in my city, and I assume there may be some in yours.

Keep your cars inside and don't let Blackie back out until he has been seen by a vet, healed and been neutered

Your cat has an infection - take him to the vet and get it seen to, and keep the babies indoors til the others are gone.

Once you get him neutered he won't have the desire to roam looking for females.

Thanks for the responses. I am so worried about my lil boy.

I have called everyone in my city today and there are NO other options available.

Blackie has not been seen today!! I have called and called and he will not come. I am still trying to locate him.

They are not litter box trained, but I can deal with that. What must I do if they start clawing the back door to get out and will NOT give it up?

If you find Blackie, he needs to see a vet for antibiotics. And he should be neutered as soon as he recovers from the infection.

You cannot have 2 unaltered males in the same area, their nature demands that only one can be there. If Blackie is around when the kittens are born, it is likely that he would kill them, not realizing they are his siblings.

Although the fighting will decrease once Blackie is neutered, it may not totally end. My outside cat Will is neutered, but with spring here, he has already been in one fight, leaving scratches on his face! Getting the other two cats trapped and neutered will end the fighting, most likely.

I would also suggest you get a litterbox for inside, and maybe your two cats will begin to use it, since you are trying to keep them inside more.

When Blackie comes home, I doubt you will be able to keep him inside. An unaltered male who is used to going out...in the spring, when females are outside in heat...he is going to want out!

Cats can be box trained..fairly easily.

Keep him in. Get him to the vet get the infection cleared and get him fixed.

like others said he wont be as interested in roaming once he is fixed.

As Katie and I was sleeping on the couch this morning, Blackie woke us up at about 3:30 a.m. meowing wanting to come in. Got up and let him in and he ate a bite and jumped on the couch and took a short nap.

Hubby woke up before me and let them both out about 6:00 a.m. I have seen them both this morning. His appearance looked alot better, at least he ate a bit. I couldn't get them to come in, they both still run from me when they are outside. They will come in for their supper time meal around 5:00 p.m. and I will see how that goes.

Thanks again for all the advice. I am trying to keep them in, but it is not going very well, especially during the day.

How can you not keep them in?! Just don't let them out!

It seems like you are putting them in danger for no reason...
