One of my boys has two upper retained canine teeth. The adult teeth are maybe ¼ of the way in and the baby teeth are still solidly in there. He just turned six months old this week, and his litter brother lost his baby teeth in the last week.

Do these need to be removed immediately or should I give it another week or so before we see our vet? In other words should the baby teeth have fallen out at the first sign of the adult teeth, or does it sometimes take a couple of weeks for the process to complete?
He is eating/drinking/pooping/playing etc. fine.

I know your first answer will be "ask your vet", and I do think I will give him a call in the morning. I am just wondering what the usual practice is in cats, and if anyone has had a similar experience.

Sometimes it takes a bit.
Trouble's fell out no problem.
Vash kept both sets for a couple weeks before his milki teeth finally fell out.

Obviously though if you notice his gums looking irritated you should take him in.

Rambo had this...his adults were fully in along with his babies. I took him to the vet and they said to hold on for a few more weeks and one day i woke up and found his baby canines sitting on my bed...i guess he left them for the kitty equivalent of the tooth fairy?!

Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
One of my fosters had this. The double canines looked very cute. He held onto the baby 'nines for about a month, then one day it was all adult. :p

Out of eight fostered strays last year, I've never found a single baby tooth. I assume that they were all swallowed or tossed out with the canister of vacuum dust.

Thanks everyone- vet agreed, and we'll give it a bit of time.

I am scare too. Coz I currently had a fostered cat and I do not know how old is he but based from the size its probably about 18-19 weeks old. And also this is the first time I seen a retained teeth.

Hi there,

This thread is very old so it would probably be best to start your own thread about your kitten.

Good luck!
