Hope it is okay I'm posting this here and in the pregnant forum, but figured ya'll might have some words of advice especially for outdoor cats.

My parents have a cat that is outdoors only...they didn't get her spayed in time because they ran out of money with my mom having 2 operations in six months on no insurance. I live 3 hours away so can't help with this personally, but they are trying to figure out where mom cat is keeping kittens so they can get her inside before she gets pregnant again (they assure me they will spay her when kittens weaned).

1) Any tips on convincing mom to show him her kittens? She is pretty tame, but he tried to follow her and she wouldn't show him. Maybe they're too young yet (2 days old).

2) Is there a certain age they should be before he touches them?

The kittens are only 2 days old. Mom cat is usually pretty friendly towards dad, but for some reason she won't show him the kittens. I'm getting worried sine I'm reading she can get pregnant in a week.

I suggested closing a box up and making a door so she can have something secure to go into and maybe will use it, but wonder if anyone has better ideas. He needs to get them out to where he can move them and her inside--fast!

Thanks
Dawn

I live in the No. Va area near DC.
Dawn: The good news is she'll bring them out when they
can toddle and are ready for weaning to
eat solids (4/5 wks). Keep leaving out wet food
for her, along with dry kitten chow (she needs
nutrients to make milk for the babies)

Bad news?? She can get preggers RIGHT after giving birth, litterally.
So.... you and parents need to catch ASAP and get her spayed.

Low cost is available through the humane society - 30 dollars in my area,
(and we are on the expensive side) ... try with your county's animal control, or ask on the board for more low cost spay netuer clinics in yr area.

Anyway, congrats on the kittens! Have yrself a ball once she
does bring them out!

And when they are in/ they are showed. Make sure you play a lot with them, handle them, so they will get socialized and tame cats. It is much easier to do it when they very young - 2-7 weeks is the big window open. More difficult later.

It will be easier to get her bring the smalls indoors if she trust him, and is sure it is more pleasant indoors, and quite safe.

Prepare a mom-nest for her indoor in a good undisturbed place, and show her...

Perhaps it will do the trick??
