Oreo, who is typically a happy go lucky cat, got so spooked by something a little while ago. He came into the dining room where I work and was trying to paw at the doors and meowed (the only time he meows is when I'm getting his food ready). He then crawled under a piece of furniture, crawled right back under, and did this a few times. He was walking around with his eyes real big and sometimes, stopped and stared at the living room sliding glass doors.. he actually looked afraid. I have no idea what happened. I do know the weather looks like it might storm, but this isn't the first time we've had them. He never reacted like this before. I tried to hold him and that only lasted a few seconds. It was as if he were looking for someplace to escape. He finally found a little room behind some files of mine and has falled asleep. I was a little worried since this is so out of character for him. Anyone have any ideas?

Wow, that is odd, I can honestly say I have never heard of anything or seen anything like that before. But it does sound odd to me. I guess it could be a possiblity he maybe heard thunder? Hmmmm....I've got nothin! Sorry!

It's possible. I think they can sense the change in barometric pressure... I know for sure dogs can, and I bet cats can, too. My cat, Lilly, gets freaked out when the weather changes and it's about to storm. I wonder if the change in pressure feels uncomfortable to them, or they just notice it. Interesting question; I wonder if anyone has more info...??

I believe they can,but I think it's their keen sense of hearing more than anything. Maybe he was in a window and saw another cat or a dog go by? My girls act the same panicky way if they see something walking around outside. They run to me like they are tring to tell me something.
And I do go look and usually there is something there

My cat, Whiskerz, always gets a bad case of the itchies when were about to have a thunder storm. Also, at my school a kid presented a presentation about how cats can sence the changes in weather :D
