Pru hacked/vomited a nice little round worm last night. We had her stool check twice after the initial worming and both were negative.
This probably explains why she is still just 6 pounds and her coat is a bit lack luster.
We shoved the pill the vet gave us, down her and the other two, guilty by association for them. I hope this takes care of her, she's had such a tough time.

Has she received any wormer?? We give all the cats that come into our rescue wormer (Strongid).

Ditto on the Strongid. After initial treatment, I believe it is 10-days later for the 2nd dose.

Pru was wormed with a liquid first time around, this time it was a pill, Drontal I believe. She threw up another batch this morning. I really, really hate even looking at them. Worms are just one of those things that unnerve me. Of course I googled round worms right away when this first happened, it was late, I was tired and I really didn't need to read that, too much information.
Is drontal and strongid the same stuff?

We do Strongid once, then again a month later, then recheck stool. If your stool samples were negative, she may have just had adult worms at the time and no eggs, which is what you see on a fecal test.

Looks like Lexi wants to follow in Pru's footsteps - she was just diagnosed with round worm yesterday - ugh! How did you administer her meds? I just tried this morning powdering her tablets and mixing it in with her food with a little tuna water as an extra to cover the taste. Didn't work - she took one bite and left the rest. Guess I'll have to go back to her vet for an additional dose as this one will obviously be a waste. I can see that this will be a challenge.

Lexi and Pru are on track with each other.

We grabbed Pru, wrapped her in a towel just so her head was sticking out and shoved the pill to the back of her throat, closed her mouth shut, and then stroked her throat to make her swallow. I held her for about 15 minutes, holding her mouth closed, stroking her throat, to make sure she didn't spit it back out.
The other two cats taught me that they could hold a pill and spit it out later.
So understandably, Pru has been keeping her distance from us. She is under the couch right now. She really didn't put up much of a fight, getting the towel wrapped around her and keeping her paws inside took persistence, and then she didn't fight. Not that she had much of a choice. Sigh...

We also worm cats once when they come into the HS, then again 2 weeks later. Damita & Chico missed the second worming(someone erased it from the calendar
). They were diagnosed with roundworms April 7th. I never saw any worms, though. The vet gave me Strongid(liquid wormer) to dose them with. On the 21st they get their second dose. Then, on the 22nd....they're finally FREE!(they've been caged--ringworm, now roundworm). The vet did reccomend that we worm both of them again two weeks after the 2nd dose, just to be sure. They had a nasty case of them.

Twitch, Lily, & Ohpie were also guilty by association. They only get Strongid 2x, though.

I believe the HS gives Drontal tablets sometimes, too. There are some cats who simply take a pill better. Not mine, though!

I hope both Pru & Lexi get over the roundworms & take thier pills easily!

Lexi says "thanks", her vet prescribed Nemex 2 for her. Of course, I had to read about it online before giving it to her and found that it's not FDA approved for use in cats, although it is used. It's a liquid and I mixed it in her food the other day and to my surprise she ate it. I'll skip the nasty details of what I found in her litterbox the next day, but let's just say that it works -

Zissou got the strongid too, and I only ever saw one dead worm. Could have been a string though.... She never tested + for it, we just assumed since she was feral.

Yeah, I'm still seeing/smelling the effects of the Strongid with Damita & Chico, but between the Strongid & the Fulvicin before that, their digestive tracts are pretty upset.

If you have trouble with litter box & poo, I use some Eagle Pack stuff(in a "seasoning shaker"). It is good for diarrhea. I sprinkle it on top of their food. I use it instead of feeding the Science Diet i/d like the Humane Society does.

Drontal is a very broad spectrum dewormer. It takes care of everything Strongid does, plus tapeworms and whipworms and probably other stuff too.

Strongid is an inexpensive, mild-tasting liquid. It's great for ferals because you can just mix it in with their wet food. It's very safe so it doesn't matter if someone accidentally gets more than s/he was supposed to.
