Cat's Got My Tongue

Cats have my everything, especially my love. I just love the little buggers. Well, my name is Jesse and I live in Virgina. I signed up here hoping for some help and guidance as I hopefully become the parent of a lovely little cat. I'm 18 and currently in college. I've loved cats all my life and have had several. I have the feeling I'm going to be the crazy cat lady in the neighborhood when I'm older. Ya know, scare the kids and whatnot with all my cats. Well just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself.

I live in McLean and I volunteer with a rescue group that adopts out cats and dogs. You may want to check into volunteering with a rescue group while you are at college.

I don't think there are any rescue groups in my area. There is a veterinary clinic up the street and the nearest shelter is probably a good 30 min drive. There are strays all over the place here. Just last semester, a bunch of students found a small kitten barely five weeks old at the old abandoned orphanage. (people go there because its supposedly haunted.) This semester, a stray cat of 9 months was caught in a tree. I'm currently taking care of her and boarding her at the animal hospital until I go home next friday for the weekend. If there were any animal rescues around here, I'd be at thier front doors in a hurry.

Wow, I heard the name Kitties and Collies today while I was in the vets office waiting to see the stray. I didn't know it was a rescue. I will definatly email them and see what I can do. Most shelters back home don't do volunteer work so here is my only chance. Thanks a lot!

You are welcome...I'm sure Aubree could use your help...looks like they are having an adoption event this weekend.

I am right down the street from where the adoption will be held. I will definatly go up there and see what I can do to lend a hand. This has just been the icing on the cake today. So many good things happening in such a short amount of time. I hope it lasts.

Awsome. Well hopefully I'll officially be the mommy of this little stray. It all depends on whether or not she can win my mom over. *is hopeful*

There are a few things that will discourage my mom from keeping her.

A) She is not spayed yet (but thanks to people on this site, I have found I can get her spayed for free.)
B) She is not declawed ( I will opt for the slips that go on claws and trim them often.)
C) She is not litter trained (This can be done quite easily according to people on this site.)
D) She hasn't had her shots (I can pay for these this summer when I get a summer job.)

So hopefully my mom will see my side of things and let me keep Miki.
