You should be able to find lots of information in this thread. If you still want more, at the top right of the H&N forum, do a search for pet insurance and you'll come up with many threads on this subject.

Good luck.

From what I've heard, most pet insurance reimburses you for expenses. That means you have to have the money up front. I've found it easier to have an emergency credit card that I can use when the vet bills get high. You may also want to make a note of which vets offer Care Credit, as that could be helpful in an emergency. I've never tried the pet insurance, but the kitty I would have needed it for wouldn't have qualified due to his age anyway.

We have a credit card called "Care Credit". It can only be used for vet bills or medical bills for yourself, so you don't have to worry about losing control and slpurging on it. You can get more info, apply and get an instant answer at www.carecredit.com.
You should check on the website first to make sure that there are providers in your area that accept the card, because not every vet clinic does. We love it though and it has saved us several times when we were in a bind!

Thank you I will go apply. Doesn't hurt.

Hi
I am a veterinary technician and in the 6 yrs of experience, I have found most clients choose not to use it since like someone else said before, you have to pay the bill in full and IF the insurance company chooses to cover your expenses you will be reimbursed. It is a whole lot of paperwork too that both you and the vet have to fill out. Care Credit is a great way to go!!! Most people do not have any trouble getting approved for this either.

I think all pet insurance is upfront first.

I have had pet insurance for 18 months and it comes up for renewal this fall and I will probably cancel it. I have a cat that has chronic pancreatitis and have had five extra bill for this, two of them quite high for boarding for care and x-rays and received no reimbursement. Even though I have had experience with only one company it is something I don't think I will be trying again.
