I realize that there are 1,000s and 1,000s of lovely cats at shelters that need a home. But for me I just love the Siamese.I like their looks and I love they way the meowwwwwwww and I like there personalities. If I could find Siamese at a shelter then I would adopt one but I have never found one. So I ask for them as presents B-day or Xmas.I have 4 Siamese now. I have always had siamese cats even as a child.I don't spend alot on myself as to luxury extravagant items. We don't travel. My siamese are my Fur kids..My one indulgence...

Both my fiance' and myself have always had Siamese in our lives.
We are currently without one now, he passed Dec 24 2004.
But we are also waiting until we are in a house as we are at capacity for a 2 bedroom townhouse right now.

We do have two pointed moggies though from rescue, but neither are at all Siamese like.

Ours are all rescues, and each is very special in its own way. As far as looks go, if a cat is well-fed and healthy (shiny fur, clear eyes, etc.), I tend to think it is a beautiful cat.
Some day I would like to have a Maine Coon, but if I don't, that will be okay too.

I think I would be more likely to buy a purebred dog from a reputable breeder because dogs really are bred for their behavior. (However, you have to be willing to accept that even within a breed, there are personality differences. ) That being said, if I walked into a shelter and a mutt decided it wanted to come home with me, I would probably have found myself a dog.

Besides, right now, i'll be moving into an apartment complex that only allows two pets [at elast that's the impression I got - I can always ask] out in Portland. Someday I'll get my third kitty.

My belief has been that you don't choose the cat, the CAT chooses YOU. JoJo adopted me... I looked at the Meezer boy there [who already had three waiting to adopt him] as well as many others... but none of them really grabbed on [not physically...] like JoJo... although the Meezer was pawing up my leg... very friendly boy. She'd been there 5 months... she was waiting for the right person... ME! Now, she's my lovebug.

If it's a certain look or character traits, and if you have the $$$, then get a purebred... whatever your heart tells you. My heart doesn't just walk to shelterkitties... it runs. To me, they just seem to appreciate you and your home more... many times they've had a hard life... abandonment, etc. But that's how I see it.

Bah! Back to packing... ugh.

That's how i feel, you never really choose a cat, bonnie chose me for sure, i went to the cat protection society to get her and when i went past her cage she stuck her paw right out and kinda grabbed me, i stopped and thought she was really sweet but i decided i'd have a quick look at the rest of the cats before making my desicion, even though i was sure i'd take her anyway...but no, as soon as i passed bonnie's cage and went on to the next one she cried at the top of her lungs so i went back and told the assistant i wanted her, as soon as i took bon out of the cage she wrapped her paws around my neck and let out a little pur, she definately chose me, and i'm so glad she did

with pandy, i was walking past the pet store and i saw her in the window, she was a tiny little fluffy tabby and she looked at me with half closed sleepy eye's and did a little cry, my heart just melted and we brought her straight away.

i love them both soooooo much

i have to do some more packing too

We have pointed cats come through fairly often...we even have an FIV+ Snowshoe lookalike and we just had a DLH Blue Pointed Mitted kitty go through the rescue....big blue eyes...one of the most gorgeous cats I have ever seen in my LIFE. I LOVE the look of blue and lilac pointed cats, but I am usually occupied with the ones that choose me or end up with me (not that I'm implying that I love them any less, since I love them with all of my heart). Maybe one day I'll indulge myself and adopt one of our pointed strays

well we hold no Biased in this house. LOL. with 13 current resident cats only 4 are confirmed purebred. 1 might be, but it cant be confirmed, and everyone else is their beautiful moggie self! And we love everyone equally and show no favourites to the "purebred" vs "moggie" their are traits to look for though...

also...dogs...My dog from the age of 2-16 Scamper was a Mutt, Husky, Shepard. Lab to be exact. and you couldnt have asked for a better dog. I loved that dog. to the bottom of my heart still do.

Currently. I own two purebreds. Siberian Husky and Basset Hound. Both are shown, and both are used for their "purpose" as it were Tracking, and Sledding

Would i hestiate to bring home a mutt again? Never.

Still Hittin' 'Em Right Between The Eyes
About cats choosing us, not the other way around ... there is a story I would like to share.

With Lexus and Tonka's first litter (I breed pedigreed Old Style Siamese cats), the blue point boy and seal point boy were originally slated to live with a lovely family in Georgia. That didn't work out and so both became available again. Then, the Seal Point boy was slated to live with a young family in Northern Virginia, but then a family member passed away and it wasn't to be. Still no interested parties in the little blue point guy. Then, a lady who lives very nearby me contacted me when her beloved senior Siamese boy had passed away and decided to purchase the Seal Point little guy, so off he went to his new home. Still no one for the last remaining kitten from that litter, the sweet little bloop as I called him. Then, one day, I got a call from a woman in Northern Virginia who was searching for a kitten, but had been turned down by just about every breeder/shelter/rescue she had tried due to the fact of her then 3 year-old daughter. She begged me to give them a chance and with caution and a strong warning that things may not work out, I agreed to meet with this woman and her daughter. I invited them down on the pretense of Morgan, the little girl, thinking she was coming to a tea party. When they arrived, she stepped out of the car in all of her tea party finery including big floppy hat and gloves. *grin* She was absolutely precious! Anyway, they came into my kitchen and just then, Bloop came around the corner and saw this little girl. I just knew he was going to be petrified and run off to hide under the nearest piece of heavy furniture. But, to my surprise, when Morgan saw him, she threw her hands up in the air and squealed as only little 3 year old girls can do and said, "OH!!!! I haven't seen YOU for the LONGEST time!!!" ... that kitten ran right into her arms to cuddle and purr and snuggle with that child for the duration of her visit.

In October of this past year, I received a lovely picture card of Morgan's 4th birthday party, with Ivan, formerly known as Bloop, sitting right next to her at his own place of honor at the table, with party hat on and a little paper plate of cat treats in front of him.

Just wanted to share ...

That is one of the sweetest stories I've heard in a good while.

I have had both and will likely always have or adopt both .... my yorkie is in no higher standing than my moggie kitties .... the only reason I se for a purebreed is having an idea of what your kitty or dog will look like grown up and if the breed as a whole has your desired traits in the majority of its memebers...

I have always had mix breeds no matter what animal.. our dog was husky/australian shepard mix, Limerick and Able are both DSH. Mix breeds do the exact same thing a purebred can do. They eat and sleep and play and love you no matter what.

I would rather have the surprise and the pride to know that no other animal will ever look like or act like this animal... Ever mix breed animal is different!

you know, I don't think my cats are purebred tabby boys and I could care less. I love them and that's all that matters imo.
they could be rainbow and I would still love them.
the same goes for my dogs.

I'm assuming a moogie is like a mutt, just a cross of who knows what?  Essentially every cat I've ever had?  We did have some purebreds, but I was rather young.

It's moggie not moogie :lol3:. The original poster (9 years ago, wow!) either was mistaken or made a typo ;). And moggie cats (proper name is domestic shorthair/longhair) aren't actually "mixed breeds" because cats are just cats. The purebreds come from the moggies, not the other way around like with dogs.
