Are dog heats not as bad as cats? I know they only happen twice a year... What about males, do they not spray everything, stink and make a ruckus like cats? I just see sooo many people not get their dogs altered, seems much more common to leave a dog whole than for cats.

My dogs were always quickly fixed, though a few strays I've taken in have had heat cycles and aside from messy, it's no where near as bad (from our standpoint).

Male dogs will mark, but they do that anyway, never had one do it indoors.
Aside from that, some can get a bit dominant or aggressive.

So yeah, dogs don't really give their lazy owners much reason to have them fixed, unlike cats.

they can happen more than twice a year (ask my girls lol) but it is a bit easier to handle than cats...in some ways.

Female dogs, CAN and WILL get more agressive when in heat. Especially with other females. that relates down to a pack thing where the Alpha female gets to breed. My two girls have to ve watched very carefully when one is in heat as they get snarky.

It is messy. They do have some small blood, and leave it everywhere they sit.

Males, well they markl but it doesnt smell. and thats about all they do. They can be a bit more agressive if left intact. especially around females in heat ect.

I am astounded every day at the boarding/daycare kennel i work at at the number of intact dogs. I show mine, and am doing so sucessfully. but i know 95% of these guys dont show (many are mutts) makes me shake my head..

Unaltered dogs are much more aggressive than fixed dogs. I had a rottwieler that wasn't fixed for about 5 or 6 years. He was the sweetest thing but one day I went to say goodbye to him before heading off to the bus stop and it was dark in the room. I bent down to pet him and he bit my arm and put a nice hole there. Three stiches in my arm, one in my hand. We got him fixed after that and he was much more mellow. But we ended up giving him to someone else after him biting me.
