Hey, our stepdad left us with a cat that is very very pregnant and should give birth in a 2 weeks or less. We already have 1 cat that is 4 years old and have this cat that is pregnant so we can only keep one kitten and we will have to give away the rest to friends. Do you guys think that the cat will be angry or will she forget easily?

She will not forget, but she might go thru a morning period. Make sure you spay her.

Welcome to TCS....First, it will be very important that this cat be spayed once the kittens are weaned. Secondly, I would really recommend that you charge an adoption fee for these kittens. Giving kittens away is not recommended unless you KNOW the person:

Also, if you need a low cost spay clinic for when this cat has weaned her litter, you can go here and look up clinics by your state:

That is what am doing but I am getting all the babies done before they go to family. I want to make sure not to populate.

If you give the kittens away at the right time then the mama cat will not be too upset - let them stay with her if possible till 10-12 weeks old, then all the family will be well adjusted ana the kittens will be properly socialised, not just weaned. Momma cats eventually push their kits out to fend for themselves anyway.

I agree. I think anywhere between 10 and 12 weeks is appropriate.

Our mother cat was out-of-sorts each time a kitten left...for the first night or two. She would look for them and meow alot. But, then she seemed to be fine with it. No long term problems.

I think we assume our pets will have the same emotional reactions we humans have. But, their experience is so different. I am not saying that they do not feel loss, but it is not the same as the way we deal with emotions.

I think mommy cats understand that the babies leave the nest. They raise them to be independent that is why they say keep them with mom till 12 weeks of age.

She shouldn't be angry or upset with you. Our stray mom cat didn't act any differently as her babies were adopted out. She was also a very laid back mom though, so I can see how some mom cats might be anxious the first day or so, but they won't hold a grudge against you!
