First let me start off by saying we have had our cat for 11 years. Sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s terrified of people other than myself and my husband. We have only taken her to the vet 3 times in her life because its such a traumatizing experience for her, we are convinced shes about to have a heart attack. Last year we took her for some breathing issues, and the vet couldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t even examine her because she was freaking out so much. The doctor said in 20 years shes never seen a cat so terrified of people. She really is a sweetheart but only around us

That being said---last year our cat weighed about 14 pounds. Recently, we have noticed her losing weight. My husband weighed her the other day and she has lost 3 pounds. Sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s an active cat, eats constantly, drinks her water, no bathroom issues. My husband has checked for worms and has not found anything. She does have breathing problems where she actually sounds like shes wheezing. I did some research and found that it might be hypothyroidism. Recently, as I was getting out of the shower I hear her meowing very strangely and she could not move her back legs. For about 60 seconds she had a problem, then she proceeded to get up and walk normally. I didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know if maybe she was laying weird and her leg fell asleep or what.

Our problem is we can not get her to a vet to get this checked out. We are not sure what to do at this point. I know this is asking a lot but does anyone have any advice.

When cats get older they usually have to have a more thorough examination, so really she should be seeing the vet because it could be anything?!.

Is it because of how she reacts that you can't take her to the vet?.

Essentially yes. She is so stressed out its very scary. First, getting her in a carrier is an all day chore. Second--if we can get her in there, the ride in the car is enough to kill her. I am not overexaggerating here. I tell people all of the time about my crazy cat. Then they see her and realize I wasnt kidding.

Do vets do house calls??

yup

The symptoms you describe could be a number of things
so anything we say will just be a guess, she needs a thorough vet exam. Is she more comfortable with men than women? or vise-versa? I would try and find a vet who she would not be soo afraid of. Good luck, I wish you the best

They do, they'll probably be a bit more expensive than going to the actual surgery, but if it means her not getting stressed it would be worth it.

I know my two hate the 2 minute drive to the surgery, especially Rosie because she hides under the blanket, so i can only imagine what yours is like

Some vet do house calls, so call around and see if you can find one. Your cat's symptoms may be very serious, especially the leg weakness. The weight loss could be related to hyperthyroidism, CRF or diabetes. I would very strongly urge you to have blood work done. It doesn't say what part of the world you are in, but call some of the local vets and see if they know of someone who does housecalls.

Yes many vets ( I can think of six off the top of my head in my immediate area ) do make house calls some will charge an extra fee while others wont... Your cat is not elderly but it is a senior and needs a thourough exam(SENIOR) and SENIOR blood work ... if you catch things now you will worry less later
