Is it safe to leave my window open at night? Henrietta likes to sleep on the sill and LOVES to watch everything outside, andsometimes she will stand up against the window frame. I've never seen her push against the screen, but we are 3 floors up... so it would be bad news if she did.

However, she only weighs 7 pounds and that might not be enough to make a different. I also doubt she would like the unsteady feeling, seeing how she already has a balance problem.

any thoughts?

I would be very careful. Cats are surprisingly strong especially when they are determined. I have a small female cat and I've been amazed at what her strength is. If you need to leave the window open, then come up with some sort of barrier to keep the cat from getting near the screen. If you are lucky you have the kind of window that lets you open up either the top or bottom. My next windows will be like that, so I can open them safely yet keep the screen out of reach.

Good luck,
Donny's and Chade's mom

I would also suggest something, perhaps one of those decorative security gate type things they put over the outside of the windows.

Cats have an amazing way of doing things we never thought they could do.

Purchase one of those window perches for a safer area. I never put the window up too far - only a few inches so they could get the air coming in, but could not lean against the screen with their bodies.

I think that's what I'll do.

I put her cat tree near it so she can see out a little better. Its so cute to watch her! When I get a new camera there's going to be pictures of her getting excited about the dogs that walk by.
