I went out and bought Jackson a scratching post the day we got him, He DOES not use it, but he also doesn't scratch the furniture, HE DOESN'T SCRATCH ANYTHING
Iam not sure why
I did take him for the first time today to have his nails clipped. They are so sharp becuase he doesn't do anything to dull them... Any Idea's?

One of my cats never scratched until I brought home one of those cheap cardboard scratching pads. She absolutely loves it and stops to scratch every time she walks by!

My kitty Mystique rarely ever scratches, in fact I don't even recall when I do see her scratch. She also rarely ever marks anything either. (rubbing her face on items to leave her scent.) but she is perfectly happy and still one of the top Cats in the house. I think she KNOWS she is beautiful so she doesn't feel the need to mark.

Mine has scratched a hole in the dry wall, which is being repaired as we speak. It's turned into a problem and unfortunately we made it worse. My partner started putting her out everytime she does it, so NOW she does it EVERY TIME she wants to go out....

I would just make sure you clip his nails regularly so they don't get ingrown. It's probably good if you encourage him to scratch w/ cardboard b/c I understand that cats scratch in order to excercise their muscles, but I don't think you can force him.

My husband wouldn't let me get one b/c he said it would make a mess, than my neighbor gave a turbo scratcher (i think that's what it's called) which is a round plastic thing with a circular piece of cardboard in the middle. Mine used it like a few times at first, then lost interest until I threw some catnip on it. Zakk is the only one who seems to really enjoy it though.

From my experience, catnip really helps with enticing a cat to use a new scratching post.

Fortunately (and unfortunately) my kitten Penny employs the monkey see, monkey do approach to life. If Angelo (my much older male cat) does something, she'll follow suit. Angelo LOVES his turbo scratcher; he destroys the insert in a month or so. So Penny's picked up on it and uses it too. When he started clawing my old sofa, she started to do so, too.

Yes just use catnip to lure the cat to the cardboard scratch thing. They are really cheap so tyr it out. Your cat may scratch on it. my cats LOVE them. My old roomate still buys them for her cat and hers in declawed. She still loves "scratching" on them though

My partner started putting her out everytime she does it, so NOW she does it EVERY TIME she wants to go out....

I had to show Princess how to use the scratch pad. I just pushed on her paws and made scratching motions with them. Then I sprinkled catnip so she's be sure to stay there a while. She figured it out. Puppy seems to just like cardboard anyway.

It seems cats all have their own scratching preferences. Puppy only scratches hard horizontal surfaces, while Patches only goes for trees. Have you ever seen Jackson scratch anything at all? If so, try and get something that is in the same direction and is the same texture.
