My cat is due very soon and today while she was eating her tail started shaking and by her bottom seemed to tighten for about 5 seconds. It has done that twice in about 5 min. could this be contractions?

It sounds like she may be close. Just watch her carefully today into tonight and keep the number to your vet handy in the event you need it.
