What do you think of this abstract Mtn scene backsplash for over my range top in the Portland house? it's 36 wiide 24 highThen the other tiles would be colors from this mural. Is it too too weird? The cabinets in the kitchen are orange oak, the floors are grey blue tile and the counters are a grey blue laminate w oak edging. I want alot of "pop" of color in the room.

It's kind of dark over on that right side for a kitchen. Than again everywhere Ive ever lived had all white walls. It is cool, though. I didn't realize it was a mountain when I first looked at it, so it will be cool if you have people over and then tell them, you know, a conversation piece.
How about a Kandinsky print? (Wassily Kandinsky, do a google image search). I know you can get just about anything in tile now, and lots of Kandinskys are out of copyright.

this is an August Macke who was in der blau reiter w kandinsky. the room faces south and has a wall of windows a and tons of in ceiling lights. so you really think its too dark? I need a cleanable surface behind a pro style cooktop for heat and grease protection. along the remainer of the backsplash I could use lighter colored tiles from the mural. and the counters and light grey blue. Oh ..... maybe it's just too weird. But thisis the last house we'll ever have so I am not worried about whether the it effects resale value.

My husband and I adore abstract expressionists.

I think it's cool. At first I thought that it was too dark on the left side... but then I started really looking at it. I can see mountains and the sun beginning to set so the dark side looks like a shadow from the sun. I would probably try to make it on some kind of removable board in case I did ever sell the house though. While I think it's awesome, there are some that may see it as a bit much.

I LOVE IT!!!! The colors are fabulous, and even if you decided to change anything in your kitchen, there are enough colors to match or contrast with whatever you choose.

Oh I totally agree. I love abstract expressionism too.

I think it's quite unusual (in a good way) and will provide that pop of colour in your kitchen. These days, people are painting their kitchens with very vibrant colours - bold reds/chocolates and oranges, so as for being too much, I'd say definitely not.
And, you can tone it down in the rest of the kitchen by taking a more conservative colour from the tiles for the rest of the backsplash & walls. Plus, you've got lots of light so you can use bolder colours without being overwhelmed.
I say go for it! You love it, and it's your house, so why not?

yeah I am gonna go for it. it's not at all typical and will remind me of the cascade mountains to the East, and my color palette will be wildly expanded, won't it?

plus the 36x24 mural is $215. much cheaper than anything else I have seen.
