Dry food is more convenient, but wet food (if you are home frequently enough) is probably better overall. I would just be concerned about leaving out wet food for extended periods of time. Dry food is mostly carbohydrates, and unless it is specially designed for tartar control, it shatters on impact. The shattering of the kibble means that it doesn't do much to keep their teeth clean. If bits of food remain stuck to their teeth, the bits are more likely (in my opinion) to cause problems because they are mostly carbohydrates and break down into sugars. As a result, dry food can cause cavities.

Wet food is also better at helping kitties maintain good urinary tract function because it gets more water moving through their systems.

I give mostly dry with occasional wet because I am gone all day, and I don't feel comfortable leaving wet food out for 8-10 hour stretches.

Very true
/// also wet food is better digested due to moisture content and it can balence out a thin cat or diet a chunky cat

I used to believe the dry food was good for an animal's teeth, but that's just a myth that is propigated by the pet industry. For the teeth to get cleaned by a kibble they'd have to be gnawing on it for a while for it to remove plaque and tarter (ie- like giving a dog a marrow bone). It's a clever marketing ploy and it works if you don't know any better.

Dry food is convienient and can be left out without risk of spoiling and it is pretty well balanced. Wet food is good for keeping a healthy urinary tract (which is especially important in male kitties). Wet food is also good because a lot of cats don't like to drink a lot of water and so it helps to decrease their need for that. I give my boy a mixture of both daily and he always has his Bistro full of fresh water.

Hi!
I have 5 kitties and I feed both wet and dry foods. I am a veterinary technician and I have asked my doctors which food is best as well. They answered me with this: dry foods are good as both a convienince factor as well as to help with their teeth. Wet food on the other hand is good for both their kidneys, as it contains so much more water content but it is also not as bad for your kittie's waist line as literature has lead us to belive for so long. The way I feed my 5 is this: I only feed them in the evenings, since I am a very lazy morning person and I don't do mornings very well. I feed them their daily requirement of dry food which is available all day long as well as a small spoonful of wet food in the evenings as a treat. I like using the wet food as well since I have a few that require daily medication and it is easier to mix with food to disquise the meds. I think that no matter what you are feeding, as long as it is a high quality food you should be fine. please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

With Skittles I am opposite. I give her 3oz of the wet each morning for spoiling and then she has a big bowl of dry nutro she snacks on all day or all night till the next morning. I would of before never given wet but I noticed no difference when I feed it but she liked it.
