With my upcoming move, I've been looking into getting tags for my furkids. Right now, they have collars, but don't wear them. Since they are supposed to wear their rabies tags and ID, I figured I'd get them some cool tags. All last week, I looked and looked for something cool.

Then yesterday I was posting on Craigslist and found an ad in the Pets section for custom tags. I followed the link... and fell in love. Well, I laughed first. these people make handmade aluminum tags, with sayings on the front and name and number on the back. my dilemma was this: I'm moving, hence the need for tags. I will be changing my cell phone #, but my provider won't let me change it early. I understand that, really.

I emailed the tag makers about the dilemma. Thinking maybe i could put an email address on there... they don't have an '@' sign. *sigh* She was really supportive and told me that she'd help me resolve the problem, if possible. I tried all sorts of things... nothing would work.

This morning, I emailed my dad out in CA for suggestions. He emailed me back, suggesting I upgrade to eFax Pro which includes voice mail. EUREKA!! I got an 800 # that's strictly voicemail. I'll use that as my biz number as well (which means i can now chuck my second cell phone... saving me money). I placed my order with the company for the tags.

They'll make the tags tomorrow and mail them out on Monday. Now, THAT'S service.

The sayings I picked out are:
for Jack: "Rub My Belly"
and for JoJo: "Bed Hog"

both of these sayings are so true of these two. Jack is the reason for my member name. He LOVES having his tummy rubbed. JoJo will stretch across the bed... hence Bed Hog. I'll take pics once I get them next week!

I hope it's okay to post their link...

You can also come up with your own saying... but the ones I picked were perfect for my two. They aren't cheap... but being hand made, they'll be worth it... the cats are worth it!

I would be surprised if they weren't members here. They have a cat... plus a few dogs... and I know we have some enterprising members here...

Wow, that is great! I don't collar or tag my kitties, but Jazz has a microchip because she is a little wild.

Since i have to also take the cats in for a thorough vet visit before the trip, I may ask how much they'll charge to MC each of them on top of the tags. Living in a mid-rise building has been reasonably safe (except that loose sreen in their favorite window... I won't open the window because of it... my new &$#$% landlord won't bother paying for the repair... jerk). The cats don't leave the apartment becasue of the noises out in the hall. Sometimes if it's quiet out there and I hold the door open, chatting with a neighbor, Jack will come and investigate. He rarely gets beyond two feet from the door before he bolts back inside. he's such a chicken.

But I'll be in a four-flat building... there will be a hall/stairs, so I'm not worries about that... it's the balcony I'm more concerned with.

Also, I want them thoroughly ID'ed for the trip. My understanding is that they have to have their rabies tags on them anyway... so why not give them something cute'n'sassy to wear around their necks? I've never flown with animals before... and they're going to be in the cabin with me...

If I may, aluminum tags are not the best since the engraving wears down. If you're willing to replace it often, then they're okay, but if not then get one that lasts longer. Zissou's is stainless steel. I love hers... and you can put whatever you want on any tag you order online. Hers says her name, our address (just street and apt #) and both our cell #s. What I love about it is that it forms to the collar, so it doesn't hang down at all, it's just sort of like a steel addition to her collar. hmmm. Hard to explain.
This is the one she has: http://www.boomerangtags.com/store/list.php?A=S&ID=16
I like it too because they fit breakaway collars.
I'm glad you love your tag though. I had no idea you could get a voicemail-only 800 number. Are you sure you'll remember to check it if that's all its for?

I looked at the slider tags. I dunno... they look secure and good, but just not quirky enough (yes, I'm projecting on to my furkids).

As for the voicemail, whenever someone calls and leaves a message, you get an email with the message attached. So, it's not like you can just forget about it. the only thing you might forget is if you change email addresses... but, Lord knows, I have a zillion of those... all set up in POP, so all my emails come to me. I'll never have a shortage of email addresses!
