I am just wondering if anyone has seen this movie, Gummo. It's the most disturbing thing I've ever seen. For one thing, the kids get money by killing cats and selling them to the Chinese food place. The movie's based in Xenia, which is near where I'm from. But it was filmed in Kentucky and the director/writer never visited Xenia...
Any opinions on it? Or have you even heard of it?

I hate that movie!!!! It is so bizarre and I really can't find anything good about it. The only thing I remember about it is that girl- spoiler!!!! having a lump in her breast.

Nope, can't say that I have, don't think I want to. I'd probably yell at the tv.

I have seen it, they showed it on Kent campus a couple years ago. It is by the Harmony Korine who wrote Kids and Julien Donkey Boy which I also liked. I also really like Chole Sevigny who is in all of these movies.

And the movie was filmed in Nashville, Tenn.
They were actors, acting, not cats were really killed.
If they were it would be a documentary.

I've seen it twice. I don't know, it's kind of one of those train-wreck movies. Oh, I know it's just acting, and not real cats, it's just still disturbing, especially cause the movie is so much like a documentary, no plot, grainy footage of the F5 tornado-- that was really on 3 April 1974--.
I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. Chloe Sevigny is great in it, and I liked Kids.
I think one thing that bothers me is that I know Xenia fairly well and it isn't like that. It's true that its never recovered from the tornado, as they still can't test the sirens there, but its not like that. Places around Dayton are very much like it, but not Xenia. If he had picked a town I'd never been to I might like it better.

I think that is exactly what I liked about it. I am a huge fan of low budget, horror, b-movie, cult film, documentary, etc... The weirder the better and the more controversal the better. Also the more bloody, gorey the better. I love that stuff. I just went to Cinema Wasteland in Cleveland last weekend. I go twice a year to it, it is in Strongsville. You can meet actors from these types of films and stay up all night watching them and buying them and buying bootlegs and films you wouldn't find anywhere else.

I love weird, gory movies too, but wow, I really hate Gummo. I mean I really, really hate Gummo. I don't get it at all. It's one of those movies that makes you feel gross after watching it (and this is coming from a girl who likes movies like Cannibal Holocaust and City of the Living Dead). I can't stand Kids either . I do love Chloe Sevigny though. She is wonderful in Big Love.
