What a mess...

We need prevention programs to identify these violent people. I can't believe that a poor dog would have to suffer for this moron's sadistic pleasure.

I've been browsing this site--amazing what human beings will do to helpless creatures.

It's as if they don't realize that animals, while not fully sentient, do have minds and emotions and can feel pain... as though animals are unfeeling property just like a car or a pair of sneakers.

Humans who do not take responsibility to ensure that animals are treated humanely should be punished.

There will continue to be no justice as long as society views them as lesser beings. It's strange to me that killing a dog or cat isn't the same as killing a human. No matter what the creature was, something still got killed.

I guess they probably think it would be too difficult to draw the line of what is and isn't acceptible to kill? I have no idea...

All of that still sickens me greatly, and I wish that there WERE some semblance of justice...

Here's the thing. They aren't people. If my cat were a person what he does to myself and my family on a regular basis would get him arrested for assult.

That lady deserved more than thirty days in jail, but cats are NOT people.

I never said they WERE people. I said that cruelty to animals (ie stomping them to death, poisoning them, and setting them on fire) should bear harsher sentences than the light tap on the wrist that the perpetrators of these crimes get now. You completely misunderstood what I said.

CommonOddity042, I agree with you 100%. Most people view animals as "things" and that's what the problem is. When a horrible crime is committed against a cat or dog people say "oh well, it was just an animal." That's why these monsters can get away with setting a cat on fire, dousing a dog with muriatic acid, torturing people's family pets, etc.

I had to bring the baby (3 mos old already!) to the doc today and overheard someone there say she planned to posion her neighbor's cat b/c the kitty was eating her plants and "in her garden". I could not help myself -asked if she had ever talked to said neighbor and did she kknow it was illegal to kill an animal - and you know what she replied- "not if I don't get caught!". Just think of what she is teaching her kids!! I was so upset!!!

No one else said anything. What is it with ppl?

Animals aren't people, yeah, but they certainly aren't things. And while they aren't sentient as we are, they certainly have consciousness and emotions.

It's like people seem to think that because cats aren't as smart as we are, and can't use human-style language, that they're not worth anything. But it's quite the opposite: Because we're intelligent (or so they say), and because we can use language and technology and whatnot, that means we ought to protect those who cannot speak for themselves.

There's a certain level of responsibility we have as human beings towards animals; and if we don't fulfill those responsibilities, there ought to be consequences.

There is obviously no justice for the young girl he raped either. I can't believe these people are given such easy sentences. For crying out loud, he raped a girl and a dog!! He should be thrown in jail for the rest of his life.

No, animals aren't people - thank God! Animals dont do the wicked nasty things people do. Give me a cat (or a pony) any day for a friend rather than a human being!!!!! (LOL!!).
