Well I had my first official panic attack last night. I went to check on the kittens (my fat tummy, clear eyes, clear squeak, kiss on the head and return to momma check) and there were only four kittens! I started looking under the chair they are next to and all around the nest getting frantic and having my mind race with horrible thoughts. Then all the sudden I turn around and Mr. Firstborn is walking across the living room floor headed into the bedroom as fast as his little legs could carry him(which is not all that fast I asure you). He had apparently climbed the blanket mountain and made a break for it. I thought at two weeks they were still too young for this but apparently not?
I got down in the floor and watched him a minute which caused Angie to come running. She was meowing at him and kept acting like she wanted to pick him up and carry him back but hesitated and let him keep walking. Finally after a few minutes he got tired and lay down so I put him back in the nest with momma who meowed in relief. It was sooooo adorable but I am going to have to find a way to confine them so that he doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t wonder off and get lost. For today I put some cardboard strips into place so they couldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t escape. Momma hates crates… we tried one and it made her crazy. She started rubbing the kittens on the bars trying to take them out. I am thinking of buying a babyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s play pen and lining it with cardboard so they canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t climb out. The question with that would be weather or not Angie would take to it. Anyone have a better suggestion than that? We really canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t confine them in a small room as our apartment is more of one large room with room dividers. Thanks for any advice or sugestions.

I think I would of had to grab the darn camera. I agree at 2 weeks he can get hurt walking. Good luck seems your hands are full.

Yep, two weeks is when Hillary (RB) took off and climbed out the nesting box. Some kittens will do that. Others won't leave until momma drags them out!

I have heard of people using playpens for their kittens and puppies.

My foster family was in the bathroom..so there wasn't really anywhere for them to go.

Maybe put them in a box with a high edge, so that Mom can get out, but not the kittens? Naturally if she carries a kitten out, the kitten can get out... A closed door or baby gate will keep her from carrying the kittens out, but will also confine the mom.

Ah, well... another couple of weeks, and you'll have kittens underfoot anyhow... might as well get used to it!

I found an ad in the paper for a play pen for $10. I think Angie may be more accepting of this idea as it isn't as confined as a box. I am going to pick it this evening. I'm keepin my fingers crossed it works out... I dont want my little tough guy getting hurt now hehehe.
