I made the plunge last Saturday to adopt a cat as a companion for my resident cat Kabou. It is not going well and I may post in the behavior section for some advice.

Adopted cat, Brandon, 1 year old, supposedly has/had gingivitis and I will take him to the vet soon for a check up. The two cats are having such an adjustment problem that I need to give them a little time before I take him to the vet. His shots are up to date. His foster mom has been feeding him dry only and the kibble is small. I suspect the nutrition value is not the best. My question is this: Do you know of any dry food for adult cats that is small kibble but also nutritious? I have been feeding my resident cat Nutro Natural Choice since he was a kitten, but the adult dry food is too big for what Brandon is either used to or can handle. I have read on this forum that wet food is best, and I am presently slowly converting Kabou over to wet. Will do the same with Brandon on down the line. For now, he will not eat wet food so need some input on small kibble dry food. Thanks so much for any suggestions you can give me.

Gee I thought Nutro was pretty small... Maybe Eukanuba? I'm sure he'll appreciate the wet food. You probably should go with what the original person used and then you can transition from that to the wet so its not to much to fast.

When Twitch was having trouble a few weeks ago with not eating, I took her to the vet. She gave me Science Diet i/d(not very good, IMO) to feed her for diarrhea. Once she was pooping normal, I wanted her off the SD. I looked into Eukanuba & the bites are smaller than Nutro, but they are still sort of large. The smallest bites I could find that were semi-decent were Science Diet. Otherwise, all I could find was Purina. Purina ONE or Pro Plan might have small bites, too.

You can look into the size of the kibble in Royal Canin. I found some with smalle rbites, however, they were odd shapes.

Good Luck with Brandon!

Natural Balance's kibble, if i'm remembering correctly, is similar in size & shape to science diet, & it's a much better quality food.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions! I really appreciate it. Poor Brandon thanks you too. Brandon would not eat at all for 2-3 days when he came to me and it was becoming an emergency. Was told by the rescue group to give him Gerber baby lamb meat and it worked like a charm.

I'll check out your recommendations and add it slowly to the kibble his is used to eating. Thanks again, Kabou and Brandon's mom.

Natural Choice is a good food if the cat can handle the kibble size.

Wellness has the smallest kibble size of any of the top-quality dry foods. It looks similar to Science Diet if you are familiar with that. Innova also has a small kibble.

Two other brands that have small kibbles, but are not necessarily in the "special" food category would be Purina Outdoor Formula and Fancy Feast Dry. My guys especially love the latter, which I give them as I would treats rather than as a main diet.
