Hello all, I'm hoping to get some advice about my mishcievious kitty..

Okay, she loves to play fetch with a foam ball. If we are sitting on the couch watching tv not paying much attention to her..she literally put one or two claws in the side of the couch just to make us notice her there so we will throw the ball for her. She will do this anytime we are not throwing the ball. Keep in mind..she NEVER uses the couch to sharpen her nails ever except to get our attention to throw her ball..

Sometimes I try to ignore her, but she keeps doing it..and its really annoying..

Should we just do what she says and throw the ball? or ignore her so she stops?

I'd ignore her and maybe put some carpet tape on the area she might try to scratch as the stickiness will not be a good texture to her.

Thanks for the advice, perhaps I will try attaching some tape or foil to the couch where she claws it...(She'll probably just eat the foil though

I use clear packing tape on my chair legs where my cat scratches and that
that works. I would not use foil as I have heard if it's ingested it can be
toxic.

My cat also loves to play fetch. It should'nt take too many throws to
tire her out while keeping her happy.

Oh my goodness, sometimes I wish Trout would get tired out..but she can literally play fetch for hours if we don't stop her!! When she was smaller she would play for so long that she would start panting like a dog..then we knew we had to give her a break. Now she goes longer than we do!

I may try the clear tape...thanks for the tip!

Maybe also consider getting her Soft Claws/Paws (same thing, diff brand)? We just recently started using this with our babes (to be sure they couldn't hurt our baby bunny), and have found that they're GREAT!! I don't know why we didn't get them before!!

You also might try making a rattle out of an empty Coke can. Rinse the can out and let it dry well. Put some dried pinto beans in it (15-20??), then use packing or duck tape to cover the hole. When your kitty is doing something you don't want her to do, rattle the can to get her attention, then firmly say "NO!". Be sure you don't just yell at her. This has been very effective with my naughty cat.

Stephanie,

Question for you...I would just PM it to you (which you can PM the reply if you want...feel free), but you don't have that enabled in your profile.

Whereabouts in TX do you live? I used to live in San Antonio, and had a friend named Stephanie, so I was curious.

Thanks!
