hello again! so the kittens are 1 month and 1 day old today. they are roaming around the house really well and growing so fast and are getting really big! i just walked into the bedroom and noticed one of the kittens on the bed was licking the blanket, she licks a lot of things, so i went to check on her and realized she had thrown up and was licking it. this is a lot of detail here***it was all white (moms milk) and looked a little chunky, almost like cottage cheese. she had recently started (past 3 or 4 days) to eat smaller chunks of kitten food but i did not see any when i cleaned up the mess. i was thinking she maybe licked something off the floor she shouldnt have, but we just cleaned yesterday. or maybe she had drank too much milk, but this hasnt happened before. do we need to take her into the vet tomorrow? she has been acting fine all day. should we just wait and see how she acts or since she is so young should we take her in just in case? ty for your help!

Vomiting and not acting 'right', definitely a good idea to have her seen by a vet. Is she still eating and pooping/peeing normally?

i just happened right before i posted the first post. since momma cat has cleaned her and she (the kitten) is sleeping. she does not want to do anything else but sleep. i thought since it just happened maybe i was over reacting but now i am worried bc u know sometimes when we get sick after we "get sick" we are fine but she actually seems sick. i dont know what is wrong with her. i am going to make an appointment first thing in the morning.

That is a good idea, taking her to the vet It's always better to be safe than sorry, especially with young animals because they can go from mildly sick to majorly sick in a short period of time.

Good luck and please keep us updated on her!

I just wanted to add, it is important to make sure she is not dehydrated. Dehydration in a young kitten is very serious and can be lethal in a matter of hours.

You can check by pulling her skin back at the scruff of her neck...it should bounce back immediately. If it does not, she needs to be seen tonight...do you have the number of an emergency vet in your area, just in case?

In the meantime, you can also give her Home-made Pedialyte, in small amounts at a time, as she will tolerate them:

* 1 cup water (boiled then cooled)
* Small pinch of baking soda
* Small pinch of Salt
* 2 teaspoons of sugar

Mix all ingredients well. Make sure the mixture has been slightly warmed before feeding to your kitten. The mixture will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Feed 1ml (1cc) every half an hour for the first two hours using a dropper or feeding syringe. Also make sure your kitten is on his tummy and not his back when you feed. Feed very slowly so the fluid does not go down the wrong tube and choke your kitten.

yeah everyone at the vet knows me by name. i have worked with them/they worked with me to find a stray cat a home. i think she just had a little left in her tummy since she licked it the first time she got sick and she had to get that out too. she isnt determined to sleep as of right now so that is good. i tried to check for the dehydration but i couldnt really tell. she is quite furry. i am going give her water just in case (we have a kitten bottle and such so im sure i can do it) just in case. thanks for your help. i was ready to take her in asap if i had to just needed to make sure i wasnt jumping the gun lol. i will still make an appointment for them to go in tomorrow. i will also keep you updated!! ty!!!!

How is everything?? Sounds like it is about time to make the appt. at the vet for mom to be spayed for when the kittens are around 8 weeks of age.

kittiekitten took her kitten to the vet, I am sure she wll update later when she returns.

Again, sending out some prayers that whatever is wrong can be easily fixed with medication. Poor thing (you and her)

It's really scary when they get sick like that.

thanks poohandwendy for that last msg! the kitten got sick 4 times total so i saved some and brought it in with me. i just got back from the appointment, its the first time they could get me in instead of earlier today like i had planned. everything went well. he has been eating kitten food of the floor (like i said) and the vet though maybe his stomach wasnt ready for it. today he has been a lot more active and being himself. the vet gave both of them deworming medicine though just in case they have worms, which i doubt they do, but better safe then sorry! ty again for all of your help and support!

My kittens died on monday from a combo of URI and dehydration caused by the cold even though I was giving them water and Krm. I waited the night and one was dead when I woke up. I thought I was doing enough and that a cold was that serious. Tough way to learn a lesson.

I'm not being hard on myself.

I'm just warning that sometimes things might now seem super bad because you are doing everything right. It can't hurt to be safe and see the vet before it is really serious and there's nothing left to do, like with what happened to me.
