I have an indoor only cat. There is some neighborhood cat that will come and spray my front door. This morning as I was rinsing it off, the door opened and some of the cat spray & water came in. What is the best thing to clean the carpet, and is there anything that can be used to disinfect the carpet, as well? My cat loves to sit by the door.

Also, any suggestions on how I might discourage the neighborhood cat from spraying my door in the first place? Thank you!

I have the Zero Odor stuff off TV and it is beautiful. My house before I moved in was ran by 17 cats (it is true) I rented it site unseen big mistake.. Anyways the house smelled bad. I got the zero odor over a week ago used it last weekend and still no smell. It is worth a try.

You should also be able to buy enzymatic cleaners like Nature's Miracle (?) at pet stores. They will break down the urine so that it doesn't smell anymore, and so your kitty isn't tempted to use it as a potty.

You are all awesome, thanks for the speedy replies. My cat is female and she is spayed; the cat that sprays my door also sprays the doors and cars of my neighbors, and some of them don't have pets...

I was nervous that perhaps my cat could "catch" something; I hope the chances are slim but don't know about this stuff. I want to clean it up really good and remove every trace of the smell, as you suggested.

I would suggest contacting a local rescue group. They can set up traps to catch him, have him neutered, fostered, socialized, and then hopefully place him in a home.

In the worse case scenario, if they have to put him back out, he will be neutered and won't be spraying as much. And if he does, you won't have that odor.
