We are goign on a 12-13 day vacation and are boarding our dog. The place has a nice place for cats but is it needed?

We could have a person stop buy once a day to feed and pet our two cats and I have heard that they really dislike new places.

What would be better - a shelter for 2 weks with more attention or staying at home with less attention.

Opinions?

Well - I know that if it were me, Harley prefers to be at home - he doesn't do well in places that he isn't familiar with

We do have a friend that stops by 2 times a day to scoop, feed, water and play with him everday for about an hour or so during each visit!

We used to take him to a friends house, but he gets very confused and doesn't like it at all, so I just keep him at home with someone that I know will be there to check on him!

But, it depends on your cat, do they do well in un-familiar surroundings?

Good luck!

I would really consider what your home situation is like. For instance, are you in "Tornado Alley" or other disaster-prone area? If you aren't, and have neighbors close by who would be able to help out in an emergency, then you could probably comfortably leave the cats at home. In case of emergency, the boarding places are safer, if there is 24hr on-site care. Otherwise, I don't think that it would be much different either way.
And the kitties would probably prefer to stay at home.
BTW, where are you vacationing? (I want to be envious - I missed out on our annual Arizona trip this year, hubby was too busy
)

As long as there is some one coming by to feed him and scoop the box and give some attention then it should be ok to leave them where they are comfortable.

I would say its really not needed. If you have someone to come over and feed and water him and play with him, that would make him just as happy. I know my cats would *hate* me if I ever boarded them...they are happy at home with my mom or a friend taking care of them.

Thanks.

We are driving from Madison to Las Vegas, then to Sadona AZ, up to the Grand Canyon, back through the mountains and then back to Madison.

DRIVE you say?? yes - what better way to see the country.

As for your opinions - I also think they would like being at home. THe dog is a different story. the boarding places is a great palce for Blake our Cardigan corgi, he gets pampered more there then at home. He loves it.

The cats are a different story, they are less human dependant and I think they perfer home to humuns.

Find yourself a high school student who wants a pet but can't get one...

Pay them for taking good care of your cats...

Make sure it's someone you can trust...

You will be doing the student *and* your cats a favor.

Mine always stay at home with the neighbours looking after them, but I have read that cats left with someone looking after them are more likely to go missing.
