L,
I am so sorry to hear about the first baby from Ice. My mentor just had a litter of 7, and while one is still hanging on, she only weighs 47 grams and the outlook isn't good, compared to the other siblings. I have you, Icey, and her precious babies in my thoughts and prayers today. If you need to talk, please feel free to email. I look forward to seeing wonderful news later. Give Ice hugs and belly rubs!!

Its possible she could still carry longer, if her cervix isn't open. Also it depends on if the milk has dropped or not. They can safely have their kittens in 24 hours. Longer than that is possible...not common though. With my girl they induced her becuase her cervix was open and that can introduce bacteria if its open for to long. Hopefully this is not the same thing though

I am sorry to have kept every one in the dark so long. I know you all want to know how things are. It's been a long night (and day so far) She hasn't had any more kittens, and labor has stopped. I decided to wait for her to go back into labor. Her cervix hasn't opened or dialated so there isn't the major need to induce, but I don't have all that much time to wait and think. For now I have decided to wait and hope the kittens can be born healthy, but I will induce if I have to if Icey is too uncomfortable. I love her babies, but I can't let any thing happen to Ice, either so for now im still waiting and hoping. Thanks every one.

Why does it depend on milk? my vet didn't seem to say any thing about the milk dropping (which it has, she has been bagged up for a little while now. I need to know if it is bad that the milk has dropped or not, I will find another vet to see her if I have to.

I think in regards to the colostrum. I think mom has colostrum for a few days but baby can only assimilate the colostrum for about 24 hours. So if it comes in early and babies don't come they might miss out. Not completely sure on how that works though. Maybe the colostrum dosen't kick in until there is suckling.

Calling sounds like a good idea. I wish I had called more than one place first. I've heard of a cat miscarrying a kitten but then the rest go to term, but I think its not common. I wouldn't know what to tell you though
. I hope it goes ok.

I had a long conversation with Gaye (thank-you) and have heard of kittens being born a week later and being ok, so for now I hope that she will be a weird exception and have a couple healthy kittens atleast. So for now i'm hopefull still.

Thats probably a good idea. When I took my girl in they had to check her cervix (put her in a cat bag to do it, and poor baby was not happy!). Thats how they determined what they had to do next
. Oooooh I hope it goes better for you!!!! I'll be thinking of you and let us know how it goes when you get back.

L,

I am so sorry, Icey and those babies are in my prayers!! I am on pins and needles waiting for an update!! I know how much you want the babies, and for Ice to not have any problems.
Hugs,
Stormi

Icey's labor is stopped. She is not diataled, or any thing it's like she never started labor in the first place other then I saw the kitten. The kittens are moving and x-rays didn't show any stuck in the birth canal or dead (I guess there would be gas around the bodies) So the vet and I have decided to wait for her, at least the night. she has no signs of stress or fever she seems perfectly normal. She is eating and drinking, too. No definate plans on how long or what to do next, i'm still holding on to the thought they will be ok, so i'm not sure if im doing the right thing but I don't know what else to do. She was going to stay there but thought it would be best if she was home where I can keep an eye on her and get her in to the vet on the first sight of some thing being wrong since I know how she acts and she would be comfortable at home. I am still bringing her in first thing in the morning to make sure all is still well with her, and make sure the kittens haven't died. Mabey I will have to make some decision by then though, by tomorrow morning it will be a long time since her first kitten.
