The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
I just got sent an MMS from Mark. It was a picture of my kitchen and what a mess it was in!
We have a cereal cupboard which the cats have recently taken a liking to. It has a small gap on the bottom shelf, which just goes to the floor boards...or so we thought...
Nismo just ran in there and Mark was going to get her out when he saw her tail disappear under the cupboard.
He tried tempting her with her 'sweeties' but there was nothing. He couldn't even hear her. He decided he'd try and remove the wood around the bottom of the cupboard to see if she was there and pull her out so he got his hammer to try and lever it off, but there was nothing to get a grip of.
So he decides to try and take the bottom shelf out of the cupboard under the kitchen sink.. as he starts frantically pulling everything out of the cupboard a little face appears on the top shelf, through the hole which all the pipes run through to the sink.
She must have had a little walk around the eaves because apparently she's resembling a chimney sweep at the moment.
Now that he isn't going to have a heart attack he's going to board up the hole she got through in the first place, and the hole at the back of the cupboard under the sink.
It's funny to think about but god knows what we would have done if she hadn't come back.
My little terrorist.

Oh good grief Lauren as scary as that must have been for Mark it's certainly gave me a giggle picturing him wrecking the house looking for Nismo, and Nismos grubby little face peeking out the cupboard

Has he not taken any pictures?!

I know, she is such a cheeky monkey. I can imagine her little face popping out too and he must have just been frantic. He took a picture of the kitchen with everything ripped out the cupboard. I'll find out if he took anymore tonight and post them. He says her whiskers are black

The scary thing is that was live in an ENORMOUS building, it covers 2 whole streets and has shops, flats etc. She could have gone anywhere and the chances of us finding her would be slim to none. We are so lucky she came back before she got so far she couldn't find her way back.
I don't know what I would have done.

I'm so glad she's safe and didn't wander far. It is amazing what tiny spaces they can fit in. When I had Petunia (RIP), I was in one-bedroom apartment. One day when I came home, I could not find her anywhere. I finally noticed that a corner cabinet had a small hole in the bottom back in the corner (they hadn't cut the bottom to cover the whole space). I opened the cabinet and there was Petunia sitting on my dinner plates.

Whats so scary as well is how you mentioned before about things happening when the cats are inside eg: fires
and now this happens!.

It's a good job Mark was there when he was

I know, funny how I was talking about that.....
Yeah he was getting his lunch at the time, thats why the cupboard was open. I don't know why she keeps going in there, its just a recent thing with her. Maybe she smells something. I will sleep easy once it's boarded up though because now that she knows she can get places she'll be fighting to get back in everytime we open the cupboard. It'll be like Narnia to her

Jana you are right, it is amazing the spaces they fit into, I really did not think she could get through this gap...I'm going to have to re-assess my whole house to make sure it is not only cat proof but Nismo proof.

I know. It actually hit me last night, after talking to Mark about it how serious it could have been. She would have been walking on wooden beams and not solid floor. She could have fallen off and would have fallen a long way. Mark was going to rip the kitchen units out thats how desperate he was.
The only reason she came back is because she's so nosy and would have heard a racket coming from the kitchen and wandered back towards it.
I've been calling her Dora the Explorer to try and make light of it but it makes my heart skip a beat when I think about it.

Has Mark sorted it now? Will 'Dora' have to do her exploring elsewhere now?!
Yes, he's nailed big bits of wood over the holes. She's just turning into a little madam though. We hang our ironing board up on the inside of a cupboard door. The cupboard was open last night and she managed to claw herself up the ironing board then fall off. She's taken to climbing the bedroom curtains aswell.
I'm going to have to watch her like a hawk

Glad the holes are sealed now!

But Lauren, don't you know how fun climbing curtains and ironing boards are?!!!

I'm lucky actually, that I managed to get Tibby to cease doing the curtain thing!! It looks like little stars when the light shines through them now though!
