hi there, im new to this site, so please forgive me if i make any errors anywhere. Ok the reason i am posting this thread is that my cat is pregnant, and im not sure how far gone she is, and she keeps vomiting thick brown sludge. We have 2 other cats and the little one has just started her first menstration, if thats what its called in feline world, and they have become threatening towards each other. i put that down to holly being pregnant. Is it normal for cats to vomit everyday, the same ammount of vomit and how will i know when shes ready to give birth, as she has shown no signs of nesting.

Im really worried about her, but dont want to annoy vets with normal feline antics....hope you can all offer some sound advise...many thanks, gr8m8

So sorry to read about your cat buty ou really should get your little cat to a vet to find out what is really going on.She may just have eaten something which doesn't agree with her but if I were you, take her to a vet sooner rather than later.

just to clarify a little better, that brown sludge is just looking to be undigested food that she brought up, i have recently changed her diet due to pregnancy, we have been advised to give her kitten food because of the vitamins in there for her little ones, and to give her conditioning tablets by pets@home, which i have done, and she only started being sick through the night, after the change, once every day now for 3 days...is that normal? thanks for all your replies by the way....

Cats can sometimes be sick if their food changes. But if it continues more than another day or so then I would take her to the vet. She should go anyway for a checkup if she is pregnant. WHy not go back to her old food and see if it improves her, then gradually switch to the new one, mixing them together?

I know that pregnant cats can get morning sickness early on in the pregnancy... however, as I'm no expert, in your shoes, I'd opt for the vet to confirm what's going on if you are concerned that it is more than temporary sickness caused by a change of diet.

The term you are looking for here is heat. Also cats don't bleed while they are in heat so that would be a concern. However, you probably didn't mean it that way.

Most likely just an upset stomach from the food change (if you do it "cold turkey" instead of gradually transitioning this can happen). Whew. "Brown sludge" sounded pretty bad out of context. If it goes on past the next week or so, call the vet. if not, I would not worry too much about it.

Welcome to TCS...it does sound like she may simply be sick due to a change in diet..but it is worth contacting your vet just to be on the safe side. Also, I would recommend you have your other girl spayed. Unless you are planning to breed her...there is no reason to keep her intact. Cats that are intact are suseptible to ovarian and breast cancer. It will also help with the relationship between your 3 cats.

I have alwayws planned on allowing the 2 girls to have at least one litter, to offer them the chance to experience motherhood. I would like like to thank everyone for their time and advice throughout this thread, so thanks very much, and i'll be sure to share a picture of those little kittens when they are born. Many thanks. gr8m8.
