I'm interested in what you guys think about this. I currently live in the same neighborhood where my family lived for a few years when I was a little kid, just a few blocks from our old house. I loved living there and have many fond memories. Every so often, I have dreams about what the house must look like inside now. I don't know the family that lives there, but have heard they're very nice. We probably know some of the same people from the neighborhood. Would it be too weird to contact them and see if would possible to see the place? I'm so curious and it would really mean a lot. I'd even be willing to share some pictures with them of when we lived there. My dad actually put quite a bit of work into renovating the house. What do you think?

I don't think that's weird at all! I think your curiosity is only natural. If they are nice, chances are they will completely understand.

I don't think that is weird at all. We received a Christmas card from the people we bought this house off of, and they enclosed a picture of what the house looked like when they bought it over 30 years ago. I really appreciated that.

Absolutely try to see the house. I have done that in homes I babysat as a teenager and people love meeting someone who knew the home's past. People never mind showing their homes . even when there is a mess. You will love it. Take photos too.

This I have to disagree with!
I would pretend I wasn't home if the house were a huge mess! One of my fears is that the people we bought the house from are going to drive down from New Hampshire one day and knock on the door and that it will be the day the house is a disaster.

Okay, I'm gonna do it! Thanks for the encouragement. So, when I call them, should I start the conversation by saying, "You don't know me, but the people at The Cat Site said I should contact you..."

Absolutely, go for it, Eileen! I often wonder about the houses I've lived in, but have never got up the gumption to take the plunge. Slight difference, in that I have not owned them, and in all cases they are in neighbourhoods I have moved away from -- but a couple in particular I do have occasion to drive by from time to time, and I always wonder....

Good luck!

Before Christmas we ran into the people that we bought out house from. We must have talkd a good half hour. We told them they wouldn't recognize the interior as we have redone everything and invited them to stop in when if the are in the area!!

Sure! Go for it...the worse they could say is "No".

The last time I was in my old hometown (which as a side note is weird, I was there for business) and drove by my parents old house, which is the first house I lived in. I didn't stop in or anything, but did a slow drive by.
I found out later than my parents, brother and sister all have done the same thing.
Imagine being the people that live there and see a a car slowly drive by your house every few years.
