I was wondering if anyone can direct me to an informative book or website on feline genetics, characteristics, traits and where they come from, etc. I am very interested in learning about this, although I have no interest in breeding ever, I just would like to know more about cats and where their specific/breed specific traits come from and how they develop. Does that make sense? There was a thread awhile back about different colored kittens in one litter and whether or not they came from multiple fathers and if the fathers or mother pass on certain characteristics or traits, that is where the interest began...I have no knowledge in this area. A site created by a vet perhaps or well respected breeder would be best.

Thanks.

Try googling Feline Genetics. I found one that has a bunch of links that all look really good:
http://www.cat-world.com.au/Genetics...ine%20Genetics

This is a fascinating but incredibly complicated subject. Some sites will get right down to the nitty gritty genetics and others are more general. An entire curriculum could be based on this topic. I think there is a book called Feline Genetics as well. Don't get overwhelmed though, it can be fun but time-consuming

Oh, I downloaded it. It's lots of fun, but extremely detailed, and I am having trouble "resetting" it back to the defaults.

It seems too detailed to me! For now i'm just trying to learn the basics for ragdoll genetics. and a little more basic, lol!

Thank you all very much, I was just interested in reading a little more about it. I think I am going to print out a bunch of things from those sites and put them together to read up. Thanks!

I have always liked the book The Book of the Cat Summit Books Michael Wright and Sally Walters. You can pick it up used for low cost. It has nice basic stuff and images to illustrate.

A more advanced book that is good is Robinson's Genetics for Cat Breeders & Veterinarians
