It just occured to me since Squiggles was a good mommy, and only had 1 kitten, she could have fed other kittens...
Not that it is the best circumstances, And without knowing if she ever had vaccinations, Im not sure if that would have been allowed..
Should I turn my cheek and act like I didnt come up with this idea, or is it something rescue groups look for??

Just wasnt sure how many "orphaned babies" really exist through the shelters, and if they would go for a situation like this, figured I would check while baby was still tiny

While I do encourage anyone with a nursing Momma cat to contact rescue to see if there are any needy orphans, I would be hesitatant to bring them in if there were healthy kittens already nursing from her. The risk of bringing in illness is way too great, I'm afraid.

Ya, I wasnt sure if you could do it with 1 kitten, or if its safer to do it when the litter is stillborn, etc..and she just has the milk remaining, either way I see it being risky I guess.
Because if something was wrong with her litter, I would think it would be risky for a new kitten, although milk could just be milk either way.,
Thanks for your opinion

I would allow my fosters to nurse another litter once the first was old enough to take away from her. But you do have the danger of her giving something to the babies, or them giving something to her. I would not mix unrelated kits with my kittens until they are old enough to get vaccinated.

But you could call a few rescues and see if the need is out there. It is very hard to say no when you see the motherless kits out there!

Is your Momma real laid back? I think sometimes they won't accept a new litter, but it certainly would be good for the motherless kittens to have an adoptive Mom!

I think Sarabi would be good for this...when her kits grow up. It just never seems to happen just right, at my rescue we still end up bottle feeding a certain number of kittens!

she is really laid back, like to the point I almost think she had to be someones pet, she doesnt do anything, No matter what you do she has never scratched, bit, or anything..
Thats why I do wonder if she did have a home, maybe she does have her vaccines..
O'well I emailed a local shelter, I will see what they say,

I just feel bad because she is such a good mommy, and there is only one baby, so its not like she is out of energy, etc...

Time will tell

I have seen this done many times with great success. Just this past weekend, 5 babies were rescued from a kill shelter. One of the little ones would not take a bottle no matter what was done. There happened to be a nursing mother in one of our foster homes so we brought the little one over to see if the mother would allow an orphan to nurse. Sure enough, that little baby flew to her & suckled away like there was no tomorrow...mother cat not only welcomed this new little piggy
but immediately began cleaning him.

We always welcome nursing mamma cats...they are a blessing!!
