Greetings to all:
I've recently joined the Cat Site, and, of course, I posted before my introduction.
My name is Katy and our cat's name is Duke. He's all black with green eyes, he's about 4 or 5 years, and has nicknames such as Bunnyboy, Dukey, Popo, Mr. Big, and just Bunny. And he's jumbo size. We live in New Jersey.
I got him from a rescuer 6 months ago. He came to us weighing 23.75 lbs. I am currently trying to switch him to wet food only in hopes of helping him lose some of the extra pounds, and it's difficult to know just how much to give him. So, we are going day-by-day.
Prior to coming to live with us, he lived in a garage in back of a house of a pet owner with two indoor cats and a dog. I never knew why he didn't live inside. I just adored him the first moment I saw him, but I imagined him crying to go outside when he came to live with us. He has never, ever had any inclination to go outside. He seems to like the cushy indoor life.
He loves to sit in the windows and look at the birds and squirrels. He purrs a lot. He likes to play with peacock feathers and empty water bottle caps. He sleeps in different places around the house including the foot of the bed, a closet, upstairs by himself, sofa, chair. He changes his bedroom every few days. He has two scratchboards which he uses daily.
He seems happy and adjusted, but I'm never sure. He definitely has a personality that works to get what he wants. At first he kept to himself a lot, but now he seems to like to be where we are most of the time.
The last time I had a cat was when I was about 13 years old, and it wasn't an 'indoor only' cat. So, I'm very happy to know this site is here and that I can find so much helpful information and read about other cat-people!
I do admire all of you who have multiple cats--I can't imagine tending to more than one!
(I want to post an image, but haven't had time to figure that out yet.)
