Im new to TCS and having read a few of the archived messages, I discovered TCS had a pen pal network a few years back - just wondered if its still going? Id love to have a cat-crazy (Like me!) pen pal in the US (Im in England).

I think that would be awesome!! I think e-mails have really taken the personal touch out of communication. I wish more people would have responded to you. If you'd like, I would gladly be your pen pal. I love to write and even more, I LOVE getting mail!! Let me know if you're interested and we can PM our addresses.
Since my joining back in '03, TCS penpal has not been revived.
How come? Was it not popular?

I think pen pals would be cool!!! Id do something like that!
If there was a penpal network, it probably disappeared due to email, instant messaging, etc. While some people feel that emails remove the "personal" touch, they are much more timely. Many people have a hard time sitting down with a pen and paper to actually write a letter and find emails quicker and easier. Depending on which country you are sending to, it can take quite a while for a letter to arrive.
Since joining TCS, I have become email & PM friends/penpals with people from around the US and the world. Although I have exchanged cards, etc with some of these people, paper and pen have not been necessary to develop the friendships.
I highly recommend becoming a PM/email friend to another TCS member. It is special to be allowed into the life of someone that lives far away from you. While TCS is first and foremost a cat educational and welfare site, the closeknit community and friendships are what keep many people coming back.

I've been fortunate to find a pen pal from this thread and look forward to a long friendship!
I have to say, everyone I have come across on TCS is so kind, helpful and friendly. TCS is taking over ebay...wow, I never thought anything could do that!
