I have fallen in love with the whole experience of looking after Tinkerbelle, my pregnant cat who is due to give birth soon. She will be spayed asap, which means no more babies of course.

However, this experience has made me want to learn more and possibly help out other preganant kitties in the future. I didnt know that you could foster pregnant mums until I read the posts on TCS(I know I sound ignornant!). I think it could be something I'd like to do in the future.

Say next year or whenever I am able to, do I just approach my local rescue centre ? Do they screen fosterers?

Im fostering a mama to be. She has no due date, which is frustrating, no one knows when she got pregnat, But she was dumped because of it. But she is the sweetest cat. Let me tell you, it has been a very rewarding experence. And we cant wait for "our" babies.

Within 24 hours of my application to foster I had a pregnant cat at my house. I was referred by a rescue group so I didnt have to get screened. The coolest thing was, this cat only got rescued because my home opened up to foster: a shelter volunteer had been wanting to rescue her but there was no place to put her. As soon as I called they went and trapped her. It was the most amazing experience, and of course I kept a kitten! I have fostered tons of cats since. The need is overwhelming.

Silvermoonmyst and ginava - its brilliant what you are doing (and all the other foster mums and dads out there!)

How long do they stay with you after the babies are born? Is it the shelter that re-homes mum and the babies? I have to make enquiries with my local cat rescue centre and see what they do!

Good luck with your mums and babies!

Minxie...how wonderful of you. I'm sure your local rescue centre could certainly use you. The rescue I volunteer with wants the babies to stay with mom until they are 10-12 weeks...that way they can be spayed and mom can be spayed as well. Then, mom and kittens are put up for adoption.
